The rumors, both inside and outside the palace, quickly made their way to the Leon House.

“The way they describe it, you’d think they were actually there. The filthy gossip is more painful for a young woman than being stabbed in the hei a knife!” Shawn said.

Shawn, the guard, returned after a trip through the streets, his face blazing with anger.

Shawn added, “Your Highness, you haven’t heard it yourself, but the people spreading these rumors don’t care at all about Ms. Yates’s life! They’re absolutely vile!”

After Shawn repeated the details of the rumors, even the usually composed Magnus couldn’t help but darken his expression.

He thought, ‘A woman who hasn’t even left her family yet, but is already being dragged through the mud for actions in the military camp–how is that any different from a prostitute?

Shawn growled, “But the one who benefits is clearly Prince Waldo! Ms. Yates had already received the imperial decree to break off the engagement. Now, with these rumors, her only options are to either marry Prince Waldo or end her life!”

He thought, ‘They’re literally trying to drive her to suicide!‘

Magnus responded, “Prince Waldo may be your rival, but he still has some sense of honor. He wouldn’t stoop this low.”

“Then who else would do something so vicious?” Shawn sneered.

Magnus met Leon’s gaze and spoke softly, “This kind of humiliation toward Ms. Yates serves three purposes. First, it’s to establish authority and remind her who’s in charge.

“Second, it’s to help clear Prince Waldo’s name. And third, it’s to ensure that Prince Waldo secures everything the Yates family has. The only person who could be behind such a plot for Prince Waldo is one person.”

Shawn’s eyes lit up. “Consort Adele?”

He immediately grew both furious and anxious.

He turned to the silent man in the chair, urgently saying, “Your Highness, if this continues, Ms. Yates will be forced to marry Prince Waldo!

“If she refuses, those rumors will reach General/Algernon’s ears. Even if he has to drag her there by force, he’ll make her marry Prince Waldo! Won’t she truly have no way out?”

But marrying into Prince Waldo’s household like that, living under the constant humiliation of Consort Adele and Prince Waldo–it would be a life of constant suffering!
