Sophia could hardly believe a small child was talking to her like that, so bossy and commanding. 

And to make things worse, this child was none other than Arthur’s son. There was nothing she could do about it. 

She forced a stiff smile and said, “I was just joking with your mom.” 

“I don’t believe you.” Julius‘ voice rang out, firm and clear. “I heard everything you said, and I also heard you, Mr. Reed.” 

The boy was only five, but his serious face carried an unexpected weight, as if he’d grown up far beyond his years. “Whether my mom is good enough for my dad is up to my dad to decide, not you. I’m their son, and even I don’t get to decide if they’re a match. If they’re right for each other, that’s their choice. No one else has the right to judge them.” 

Mason was taken aback, his eyes widening in surprise. He turned instinctively to Charlotte, expecting to see a smug or proud expression on her face. But instead, he found her looking at Julius with equal shock. 

She clearly hadn’t expected her little son to speak so logically. His words were clear, well–structured, and completely unfazed.

Charlotte’s heart skipped a beat. Seeing her son defend her like that brought a wave of overwhelming emotion. It felt like the tide crashing over her, and she couldn’t help but clutch his small hand tightly. 

The lights in the banquet hall were bright, the violin music still playing in the background as guests passed by. Yet the air around them had grown tense, as if time had slowed down. 

Mason, observing Julius, saw a reflection of Arthur in the boy’s calm and steady demeanor. 

Instead of getting angry, Mason smiled slightly. “You’re right,” he said. “I owe you and your mom an apology.” 

He turned to Charlotte. “Ms. Hardwick, I’m sorry. I was out of line earlier.” 

Sophia clenched her teeth. She didn’t want to apologize, but after being called out by a child, there was no way around it. If she didn’t admit her mistake now, she would look even more ridiculous in front of him. 

But she still wasn’t ready to give up. She shot a sharp look at Charlotte. “Is this how you teach your child? No respect for people?” 

“Ms. Reed!” Julius‘ voice turned cold, and there was a sharpness to it that caught everyone off guard. “I’m talking to you right now. Why are you insulting my mom? She hasn’t done anything wrong! And by the way, my grandparents are the ones who

“I–I wasn’t,” Sophia stammered, completely taken aback by the child’s defense. 

Her face turned bright red with embarrassment. She could only lower her head and mumble, “I’m sorry.” 

With that, she quickly turned and stormed off, practically wanting to disappear into the ground in humiliation. 

Julius looked at Mason. “Mr. Reed, your sister likes my dad. Can you talk to her and tell her to stop? My dad only loves my mom.” 

Mason raised an eyebrow, his voice full of amusement. “Your dad loves your mom?” 

“Yes, he does,” Julius replied, his little face serious. “I’m just an outsider, but I can see it clearly.” 

Mason couldn’t help but laugh.
