Mason watched the scene and couldn’t shake the feeling that Charlotte was behind all this, pulling the strings to manipulate 

Julius. 

His brows furrowed as the thought crossed his mind. He had to talk to Arthur about this. Charlotte’s upbringing was clearly lacking, and she shouldn’t be allowed to have any further interaction with Julius. 

He adjusted his wheelchair and rolled away. 

Over in the lounge, Charlotte and Julius were sitting on the sofa, with fruit and cake in front of them. 

“Bored yet?” Charlotte asked with a playful smile. 

Julius nodded. “A little. I can’t understand most of what they’re saying, but once I’m done with my task, I’ll head out.” 

“You’re here for something?” Charlotte raised an eyebrow, surprised. 

“Yeah.” Julius gave a small nod. For him, it was a pretty big deal. 

He had a role to play in his parents‘ relationship, one that was crucial.

“No, I’ve got it.” Julius straightened up, his expression serious. 

“Okay, once you’re done, I’ll take you home,” she said, ruffling his hair with a soft smile.

Barrett glanced at him. “So, what did you talk to Charlotte about?” 

Mason shrugged. “I don’t really know her. I just wanted to get a sense of what she’s like.” 

“And?” Barrett pressed. 

“I’ve got a general idea now.” Mason nodded. 

Gideon suddenly chimed in. “Let me guess… you think she’s not good enough for Arthur?” 

Mason looked at him, surprised. “How did you know?” 

Gideon smirked, pushing his glasses up. His voice was calm as he said, “Because, a while back, it seems like Sophia had a run–in with her. And, being Sophia’s brother, of course you’d side with her and look down on Charlotte. As for her, ever since she decided to divorce Arthur, it’s like she’s turned into a different person.
