Charlotte’s mind was in chaos, her thoughts tangled and knotted. She shook her head instinctively. “That’s impossible…”

“I know,” Charlotte replied, her voice turning cold. 

She’d been drinking too quickly, and a flush had crept into the corners of her eyes. 

Diana looked at her friend with sympathy and said, “I’ll stay by your side through all this until the divorce is finalized.” 

Charlotte gave a small laugh. “Diana, you make men seem so useless. Maybe I should spend my life with you instead.” 

“I’m planning to marry Barrett,” Diana replied. “That’s one of the things I want to take care of while I’m back.” 

Charlotte blinked in surprise. “You’re sure about this?”
