Mabel was the first to speak, her tiny soft hand grabbing Douglass‘ strong, well–defined one as her eyes crinkled with joy. 

Her hand felt like touching a cloud. Douglass‘ eyelashes fluttered as his gaze dropped to Mabel’s small, pudgy hand. 

She was looking up at him with sparkling eyes. 

“You’re Little Cutie, right?” Douglass asked in a gentle, deep voice tinged with amusement. 

Mabel nodded vigorously. “Yes, yes! I’m Little Cutie!” 

Douglass‘ lips curved into a smile. “Hello, Little Cutie. May I be your friend?” 

Mabel blinked her big eyes and said, “Actually, you want to be friends with my mommy, don’t you? Do you like my mommy? Well, you might have to get in line! There are so many Mr. Charmings like my mommy!” 

“Oh?” Douglass raised an eyebrow, his expression hidden behind his mask, but his tone hinted at playfulness.

Evie’s heart clenched as she tried to maintain a calm facade despite her inner turmoil.
