“That hospital must be full of scammers. Probably some shady place with fake test results,” Ava said bluntly. 

As she looked at Ava with red–rimmed eyes, Sarah’s tears started falling. “Grandma, did I do something wrong? Why are you so unhappy with me? Do you think I came here to steal Ms. Hardwick’s place? If that’s the case, I’ll leave.” 

She got up to leave between sobs. 

Camille quickly grabbed her arm. “Sarah, don’t talk nonsense. Your grandmother needs time to accept this. Both you and Lottie are daughters of the Hardwick family. Nobody is stealing anyone’s place.” 

“Ha! Stealing her place? Do you think my Lottie would want anything to do with this mess? She made the right choice cutting ties with you irresponsible parents!” Ava snapped without holding back. 

“And don’t try those acting tricks with me. I’m sick of watching them!” 

Camille’s face darkened. “Mom, can’t you just hold your tongue for once?” 

Ava stood up abruptly. “Don’t want to hear what I have to say? Then why send me an invitation? Do you think I wanted to

She let out a snort and headed for the door.

“Ava! Please don’t go! You came such a long way to visit us. Camille and Sarah were just being thoughtless. I’ll make them apologize to you. Please calm down.” James stepped forward, blocking Ava’s path. 

Ava stopped, giving him a look of disgust, but said nothing. 

James immediately shot Camille a stern glare. 

Camille swallowed her anger, not daring to speak up. She hugged Sarah’s sleeve and whispered, “Sarah, apologize to your grandmother. Then you can go upstairs to rest.” 

Sarah was entirely against it! 

She thought. This old witch shows up and starts picking on everything about me. Why should I apologize? 

But seeing how James and Camille were sucking up to Ava, she sensed something fishy. She bit her lip and said, “I’m sorry, Grandma. I shouldn’t have made you angry. Please don’t be upset. Getting worked up over me wouldn’t be good for your health.” 

“That’s right, Mom. Sarah needs time to adjust. She’s a good kid! If you spend time with her these next few days, you’ll see that. Mom, you came all this way to visit us. I shouldn’t have upset
