“He warned me you might be in trouble and told me to prepare for the worst,” Ava explained. “I came here alone because I was worried about you, not because he asked me to.” 

Ava had been on guard from the start. She immediately grabbed the railing when she saw someone other than Sarah emerge. She’d seen through their scheme and managed to dodge their 

attempt. 

Her aged face now had a serious expression. She held Charlotte’s hand and spoke softly, “Lottie, I’m fine. Don’t worry about me.” 

Charlotte’s hands were ice cold, while Ava’s were warm and dry. Her mind began to clear. Today’s events were full of suspicious details and flimsy excuses. She needed to think things through carefully. 

Sebastian frowned at her. “Lottie, what are you suggesting? Do you think I’d try to harm grandmother?” 

His voice carried a tone of disbelief as he stared at her. 

“No, I was just panicking,” Charlotte said hoarsely, then turned her attention to Sarah, who Camille was holding. “She tried to kill my grandmother. I’m taking her with me today, no matter what!”

Charlotte stepped forward slowly. “Then why did she switch clothes with the waitress? Why did she try to get rid of me? And why did that waitress try to push my grandmother?” 

Camille held Sarah tightly, glaring at Charlotte. “She doesn’t want to marry this man! Isn’t it normal to try to escape an arranged marriage? If it weren’t for Arthur, she’d be free by now! And how can you blame her for what the waitress did? She had nothing to do with it!” 

Charlotte stared at her coldly, realizing that a mother could protect her child unconditionally. 

Camille’s love and protection for Sarah were genuine. Seeing her suffer made her sad and angry.
