Snapping back to her senses, she gave him a sly look. “Do you remember how Frank mentioned a man claiming to be Clara’s brother came looking for her?”” 

Ryan raised an eyebrow. “So, you’re saying the guy filling in for Clara’s classes was her brother?” 

Nina let out an ambiguous laugh, locking eyes with Ryan without saying a word. 

He gradually caught on, and a curse escaped his lips. “So, that guy isn’t her brother. He’s her man?” 

She nodded. “Not what you expected, huh? You thought Ms. Salford was all innocent, but she’s like this behind the scenes.” 

He couldn’t believe it. No matter how he looked at Clara, she didn’t seem like that kind of person. Suspicion crept into his gaze as he scrutinized Nina. 

“Why are you staring at me like that?” 

“You’re not making this up because you’re jealous of her, are you?” Ryan’s tone was filled with doubt. It wasn’t entirely impossible. 

Seeing him still defending Clara made Nina bum with jealousy. 

“Why would I lie to you?” She crossed her arms, tixing her eyes on Ryan. “You saw it too that day. Mr. Stone escorted a man out of the principal’s office, treating him with a lot of respect. 

“Later, when we asked the principal about it, he said the man had come to donate money and supplies to the school. But when we asked who he was, the principal didn’t answer. If there’s no reason behind it, then what’s the secret? 

“I’m guessing that man is the same one who claimed to be Clara’s brother and came looking for her before. That’s how he could connect with the school and step in to cover Clara’s classes 

“I’ve met that man and spoken to him. There’s no way his identity is as simple as it seems. But think about it. If Clara really had such a powerful background, why would she come to some backwater town to teach? 

“And why would he only anonymously donate to the school instead of taking her away? Also, that man doesn’t even share the same last name as Clara. How could they be siblings?” 

Ryan’s doubtful expression slowly faded, replaced by a dark, brooding look. “So, what are you getting at?
