"You can go home, Scarlett," Gabriel said as he stepped into my office.
I nodded, "Okay, what time is it anyway?"
"Seven."
"At night?"
"No, morning," he replied sarcastically.
I flipped him off before gathering my things and walking past him. I mumbled a "good night", feeling awkward. I could feel him watching me, but not once did I turn around. I closed my eyes as soon as the elevator doors closed, trying to get myself to relax.
This isn't right, he shouldn't be staring at me all the time. He has a girlfriend, soon to be fiancé, it's wrong. I mean, it's not wrong to just look at someone attractive once, but to constantly look at the same person? There is a problem there. I understand we were husband and wife just two years ago, but he has moved on now. And I need to move on, our chances of being together, are nonexistent.
I shook the thoughts from my head as I stepped out of the elevator, not wanting to give myself a headache tonight. All I do want is to go home and go to sleep. After all, he gave me a large list of things I need to do tomorrow, which means I need to be there at five in the morning. Again.
Have I ever mentioned being an adult sucks?
"Honey, I'm home!" I announced as I walk into my apartment. "But I'm forever alone so...there is no honey."
"Well, if you don't give me my money you will be my wife soon."
I yelped before switching my light on, coming face to face with a man. He was smiling at me while sitting on my couch, wearing a tight shirt that hugged his muscular build and black skinny jeans.
"Who the hell are you?" I hissed.
He smirked, "The name is Xavien Knight, your future husband."
"Uh, no, you're my forever enemy. Get out."
"You don't even know me."
"I do know that you're dangerous."
He chuckled, "How so? Am I doing anything...aggressive?"
"Well, no, but-
"Darling, I suggest shutting that mouth of your. You're spitting out nonsense. Sorry to disappoint, but I'm not the usual bad guy," he stated, cutting me off.
I silently watched as he stood up, my eyes widened, he's way taller than Gabriel. He stretched before looking around my family room, furrowing his eyebrows.
"Wait, so...you're not going to kill me or hold a gun to my head?" I asked.
He laughed, "Baby girl, this isn't a story. This is real life, not all guys with muscles like to go around the city, swinging guns around and saying crap about their dicks. I just want my money. But....if it does come to a certain point, I have no problem...convincing you to give me what I want. I am quite...persuasive."
I gulped when he flashed me one gorgeous smile. I hate to admit it, but this man is easily hotter than Gabriel. However, I didn't answer him, I just watched him study my apartment.
"You need a bigger place...no queen should be living in this tiny little thing," he commented.
I raised an eyebrow, "Queen?"
He had a goofy smile on his face, "Yes, someone as hardworking as you should be treated as such. I have had my eye on you, since...I have...certain people who know about you. I need to make sure they stay away from you. You can thank your father for dragging you into this mess."
I bit my lip, "What mess, exactly?"
"I'm a mob boss, baby girl. Your dad borrowed fifty grand from me and I want it back. Unfortunately, I am running on difficult times and I desperately need this money," he explained.
"Fifty grand?"
He nodded, "And so far, after working your ass off for two years, you paid twenty five grand. I need a little more."
I groaned as I sat down, "Out of all people...he borrowed money from the fucking mafia."
"You know, you need a new bed too, this is tiny."
I looked up, only to realize he wasn't in front of me anymore. I sighed before storming into my bedroom to see him sitting on my bed.
"What is this?" He asked, picking up an unopened tampon.
He smirked, "Don't mind if I do."
"You're one arrogant, annoying, bastard."
"And you're one beautiful little demon, but you don't see me complaining."
I narrowed my eyes at him, "We are not going to get along," I mumbled as I picked up the tv remote.
I yelped when I found myself pinned against my wall, "Oh...but I think..." he trailed off as he kissed my jaw.
He then kissed me on the lips, testing the waters. For whatever reason, I melted into the kiss. He's an expert, that's for sure. His lips moved softly with mine, his hands trailed down my sides before landing on my hips and pulling me closer.
"We will," he whispered when we parted.
I stared at him wide eyes and hot cheeks, "I have a feeling I should slap you right now."
He smirked, "And I have a feeling I should get rid of that boss of your, but I won't. No doubt you'll hate me if I ruin your ex-husband."
He took a step back and combed his fingers through his hair. I furrowed my eyebrows, "You're an odd man, Xavien."
He shrugged, "I'm just oddly happy and extremely flirtatious."
"Yeah..."
"Well, baby girl, you have four weeks to get me at least ten grand. I'll cut you some slack."
"But that's only a month."
He smirked, "Better work more hours."
With that, he walked out, leaving me alone. I softly touched my lips, still shocked by him kissing me. I'm almost positive that isn't how meeting someone new is supposed to go.
But, damn, did I like it.
