"My, you look wide awake."

I froze when I saw Melody sitting in my office, one eyebrow raised. I furrowed my eyebrows before ignoring her and sitting in my chair.

"Why are you here at five in the morning?" I asked.

She pursed her lips, "I wanted to talk to you, without Gabriel here."

"Listen, the chances of me and him getting back together is zero. He loves you, not me. Plus, our marriage was perfect."

"I...actually...wanted to sincerely apologize. I was talking to my brother last night, you know who I'm talking about. And he told me everything and scolded me for being a bitch. I was jealous, because here Gabriel is, dating me. A divorced slut and then here you are, his ex-wife who should be a model. I was being stupid and just a royal bitch. I'm so sorry."

I frowned, "What did Xavien say to make you apologize?"

She smiled sadly, "That my mom didn't raise me to be this way. She would be upset...I can't disappoint another person in my life."

"Well, you're forgiven and don't worry about me and Gabriel. I...my life isn't for him."

She bit her lip, "He still has feelings for you, I can see it in his eyes when he looks at you or talks about you."

"Well, I'll make it extra clear that I don't want him. I don't want any boyfriend or relationship until I'm out of this whole mess. I can't balance it all out," I sighed.

She smiled before patting me on the back, "It gets difficult at times, but it'll get better. So, what do you think of my brother?"

I frowned, "Don't get any ideas."

"But you both need some action!"

"Oh my god, I'm not listening to this. I just met him!"

She shrugged, "Love at first sight?"

"Yeah, no."

"Party pooper."

I chuckled, "You and your brother are pains in the ass."

She smirked, "Well, we are siblings. It runs in the family."

We both laughed before I got to work while she got the idea to wake Gabriel up. Apparently, he pranked her the other day and her revenge is pissing him off in the morning. I laughed when I heard him grumbling gibberish over the phone.

By the time seven rolled around, Gabriel was already storming into my office, glaring at a grinning Melody. "You two hated each other the other day and now you're friends?" He asked.

Melody nodded, "Honey, us girls are difficult creatures to understand. Just go with the flow."

I chuckled, "What she said."

I released a breath, "Or he just really wants his money."

"That could be a possibility, but I just...I'm tired of seeing him alone. He's not the happy guy who always protected me anymore, he's just...quiet. His personality does shine through sometimes, but most of the time, he's cold. I'm just worried about him. You're the only person I can see being a friend to him. He doesn't need a girlfriend, just a friend. Please?"

I stared at her for a moment, "You're truly worried about him."

She nodded, "He just works, that's all. I'm scared he's going to work himself past exhaustion or fall asleep while driving. He honestly doesn't care if he gets killed, he said that himself. He has nothing to lose in his mind."

"But he seems...dangerous."

"I'm not going to lie, if you cross him, he's extremely dangerous. He will destroy anyone who betrays him, but he's a loyal friend. I can tell you that much."

I frowned as I thought over her words. Xavien, even though he's good looking, I'm still afraid of him. He's tall, dark, and handsome. The perfect bad boy.

A secretary and a bad boy.

That's new.

"Fine, I'll be nice," I sighed in defeat.

She smiled, "Thank you."
