ELEANOR

‘ELEANOR, RUN!!’

A voice boomed inside my head. I feel my heart pounding violently against my chest as I tried to locate the source of that gruff voice.

‘ELEANOR, WHEREVER YOU ARE, I’M BEGGING YOU… RUN!!’ My eyes widened realizing who it could belong to.

‘A-Alex?’ He had reached out to me through mind link. I haven’t been able to realize it ‘til now.

‘C-Can you see me?’ I stutter.

‘No, I can feel you panicking out there, Eleanor. I can sense there's danger too. We’re mates, Ellie. It’s just how it works,’ He explains but before I could even give him a response, I saw a huge gray wolf pounced right at me from the corner of my eye.

My breath hitched, and I stagger backwards as I force my legs to move from its frozen state.

Ducking right under the wolf’s gray stomach, I sprinted towards the opposite side. He landed directly on the brown wolf’s head who whimpered as they rolled on the solid ground.

I then took it as an opportunity to jump high above their heads. They looked up at me wide-eyed and visibly stunned.

My shiny blood-red fur gleamed under the bright sunlight, and I wasted no time in looking back at the six wolves who growled as they watch me run far away from the Blue Mountains Pack territory.

Of all places… How have I let myself end up here?

I was panting heavily, my four legs catching a thousand splinters each time I cut through the broken tree branches. I pray to the moon goddess the path I’m taking blindly right now would lead me far away from my old pack’s territory.

The very place where I lived my life like a living hell.

Pushing my legs harder to run, I fixed my gaze heading north, hoping it would push me further into the dark woods.

‘Run faster, Ares!’ I tell her, utter fear and panic coursing through my veins as I urge my wolf to quickly pick up her pace.

‘I’m trying, but they're getting close!’Ares replied with the same intensity of panic and fear in her tense, shaky voice.

The loud, rustling sound of my legs brushing against every fallen leaf produced enough noise for the raucous men to chase after me from behind. I dashed and sprinted over every tree root, even bit down tree branches to throw their way hoping that would at least slow two or three of them down—if not all.

I look back over my shoulder for a brief moment before gasping inwardly in shock.

What in the world are the best warriors from my old pack doing near the borders? And why have they come so prepared when they rushed to me?

The other three wolves seemed rather unfamiliar, and I suspect they were from a rival pack but I wasn't sure which one. Two men from a rival pack were each riding their fellow wolf. One was holding a black crossbow in his hand whilst the other one held a small pocket knife pointed towards me.

Still, there is one question that formulated in my mind...

Why are they so desperate to hunt me down?

“Cowards!!!”

“Don’t let her escape!”

“Faster motherf**kers!!”

I gasp inwardly the moment I felt an arrow almost slice straight through my head. My fear has then been realized when the sharp edge of the arrow looked like it was dipped in some type of purple liquid.

'Wolfsbane!' Ares gritted her teeth, growling lowly just after she took a small whiff of it in the air. It had landed on the pile of mud I barely managed to dodge and pass by.

Shit! I thought to myself.

That could have been my head! My mouth fell open at the sudden thought.

"You imbecile! The Alpha wants the blood wolf alive!" One of them exclaimed angrily.

The next moment, I hear someone chuckle devilishly from behind me.

“It wouldn’t be any fun without a drop of blood or two now, won’t it?” He laughed again, and the creepy sound makes me want to shrink myself in one corner to hide.
