ELEANOR
I turn my head only to see a massive jet black wolf lunge straight at them, catching three of the men off guard whilst the three others backed away almost immediately after he attacked. There was one huge gray wolf trudging close behind him and he started attacking the others too.
Dumbfounded, I watched the scene wide-eyed with my mouth agape while they growl and claw violently at each other. Canines descending like daggers from their rabid mouths. Their ears were closed down their foreheads, and their nozzles crinkled as they growled.
Vaguely aware that I was naked, I look around and see an extra large, dirty white button-down polo shirt lying on the ground. Hugging my fully-exposed breasts, I reached out and grabbed it from the ground.
This will have to do.
I fumbled for the shirt’s opening before tossing it over me. It was big and long, and it touched below my knees but I’m grateful for it. Relieved to finally have some clothing to cover my exposed skin, I sighed.
I whip my head to the sound of multiple bones snapping and gushing of blood, followed by a succession of loud whimpers.
I let my eyes travel across the scene and saw two wolves lying on the ground. Unmoving.
I squinted at the brown wolves while the huge jet black wolf stood fiercely above them. My eyes widening at his immense size. Could he be an alpha?
He watched as the color leaves their eyes. Their lifeless bodies became nothing more than dust on the solid ground.
On the other side, the gray wolf pinned down two of the enemies, but I knew they were all from my old pack. Each of them struggled yet they were unable to free themselves from his tight grasp.
My heart jumped when his companion dashed towards him and sank his canines in their necks.
Meanwhile, two of those men chasing after me shifted into their wolves, and was about to run off but the huge jet black wolf jumped in front of them, blocking their path.
His black fur glistened under the bright early morning sun, like a knight in shining armor in the form of a shiny black wolf.
He lets out a thundering growl, staring down at those wolves who whimpered and lowered their heads in extreme and visible fear.
The jet-black wolf shot his companion a meaningful look before the gray wolf then sank his canines in one of the wolves’ necks. At the same time, the jet-black wolf pounced on the last wolf and immediately bit him down on his neck. They struggled for a while, but soon the sparkle of life once present in their eyes gradually faded as did the rising and falling of their furred chests.
The gray wolf dropped the lifeless body on the ground with a thud. Whereas, the jet-black wolf abruptly snapped his head up, looking around with his ears perked up.
I watched as he sniffed the air, as if sensing danger closeby.
I sweep my gaze across the forest trees, jumping when the sound of a fallen twig breaking suddenly entered my ears.
The jet-black wolf growled before he ran directly towards me.
Shit. Is he going to kill me? My heartbeat sped up a thousand times faster, thumping wildly against my chest.
I close my eyes shut, clenching my fists on my sides as I await my demise.
However, several seconds later when nothing happened, I pry my eyes slightly open. He’d turned his back to me and stood in a protective stance. My brows furrowed, forcing my aching body to move given the potential danger that may be lingering around.
The gray wolf appeared on his side, the look in his eyes showing his willingness and determination to fight with his fierce companion up against whatever danger may be lurking by.
I gasp when out of the corner of my eye, I saw a group of rogues surround us with watchful eyes. The gray wolf appeared right behind me in one swift move when he noticed a rogue was approaching me from behind.
A loud roar grumbled like thunder and erupting volcano from within the black wolf’s chest. He shifts into a defensive position, as if daring the group of wild rogues to attack.
One of the rogues decided he was up for the challenge and lunged forward towards him. In a swift movement, the jet-black wolf dodged his canines and caught him on the back of his neck.
The rogue was fast though, and he somehow managed to pull away and briefly shift back into his human form before snatching a dagger from the ground. One of the rogues must have thrown it to his feet seeing he was placed in a bad position during the fight.
I gasped in realization as the rogue gripped the dagger in his hand and advanced towards him in lightning speed.
“LOOK OUT!” I screamed from the top of my lungs.
Just when he snapped his gaze to my face, the rogue ambled to plunge the dagger directly into his face. My heart almost left my chest when the gray wolf jumped right in front of him.
The dagger stabbed the gray wolf on his back, causing a piercing howl to rip out from his chest.
He staggered but managed to snatch the dagger from the rogue's hand through his teeth. Shocked, I brought my hands over my lips and watched in disbelief as the jet-black wolf growled thunderously once again before lunging forward and biting the rogue’s head clean off his neck.
His head landed on the ground with a thud. A second later, so did his body.
I notice the gray wolf swaying in his spot. His eyes rolling back and forth as though his head was spinning from the impact brought by the dagger that is now slipping out of his mouth. The jet-black wolf then ran to his aid and nudged his body, urging him to get his shit together and fight. He looked at his companion right in the eye before his eyes glowed a bright, shimmering gold. Just like Alexander whenever he was communicating through mind link.
Surprisingly, the gray wolf straightened up as if nothing had happened. The next moment, both stood side by side in front of me, growling as they stared down at the group of rogues surrounding us. It was ten against two big, fierce wolves, probably alphas for all I know.
The rogues looked at him, slightly hesitant, but fear was evident in their eyes as they stared up at the huge black wolf. I could sense their bodies trembling, tension building up within them while they contemplated whether it was worth risking their lives to challenge him any further.
After a time, the rogues slowly turned their backs and scurried off, running deeper into the woods.
