Estelle's POV

My father's eyes flashed with a different emotion when he saw me, and my appearance had not changed much. Nathan, in a rare move, took my side and was not happy with my father's concealment. I asked my father in a very serious tone.

"Do you really not know about my mother? Not at all?"

"No." My father's gaze shifted away, he didn't want to look at me.

"Do you really know the seriousness of this matter? It's more than just a murderer, it involves two races."

"It's none of our business, the Alpha will sort it out."

"None of my business? It's none of my business that I almost got killed by a vampire?" I shouted angrily at my father.

"What do you mean? What vampire is going to kill you?"

I told my father about my recent encounter and his face grew hard. I knew he was hiding some deeply buried secrets, so I pleaded with him in a sincere tone.

"Tell me, do you want to see me die?"

My father sighed, and he led us to his room. He pulled a photograph and crown-shaped metal badge from the bottom of a locked drawer. I remembered the picture, and the yellowing couldn't hide the beauty of my mother, whose hair was as light blond as mine is now. My father placed the badge in my hand.

"This is something of your mother's, a badge from her family."

"Which family is this."

"I don't know, your mother didn't want to mention her family, and I didn't want to press her."

"What's wrong with her family?"

She was being courted by the vampire lord of their family, and the lord wanted to make a pact with her. But your mother didn't want that, she hated that brutal lord. But the lord was so powerful that he tried every possible way to force your mother, and your mother had no choice but to flee the vampire's territory.

Then a war between werewolves and vampires broke out, and the lord died in the war. Your mother was found by a group of werewolves, who tried to kill your mother. But your mother pleaded with them, and during this time, she stayed hidden in the mountains and did not participate in any war. But the werewolves still wouldn't let her go, and I was an ally of that gang of werewolves. I couldn't stand the thought of them killing an innocent who didn't want to resist, and I took your mother and left.

On the way to escape, we fell in love. Your mother was a kind and strong person who gave up her identity as a vampire. Pretending to be human, she lived with me in the wolves until she gave birth to you and your brother.

"And then she disappeared?"

"Yes. I searched for her for a long time. I had a glimmer of hope when the vampire came back into our sight."

"So you ran out to find her while the wolves were on alert."

"Yes."

"Why didn't you tell me earlier?"

"I wanted to keep you as far away from all this as possible."

"But fate always comes to me, doesn't it?"

I looked at the crown-shaped badge in my hand; if I wanted to understand my lineage, I would have to start with this badge. Nathan and I went to the largest library in the wolf pack. In the library's closed resource room, there were many books hidden that were not allowed to be borrowed by outsiders. I showed the library manager the silver iris before he agreed to let us in.

The resource room is a constant temperature and humidity storage room, just to protect these important papers. During the journey of the Eclipse wolf pack's expansion, they had collected all the pack's canonical books. I tried to find some information about vampires in here.

"Hey, come look at this." Nathan waved at me excitedly.

"What?"

In the depths of the resource room, Nathan found a huge book with cowhide as the cover. It had complex and obscure Old English written on it, and the inside of the book was all handwritten, with some of the writing worn away from age.

"Can you read it?" Nathan asked me.

"More or less." Luckily I hadn't wandered off during this class, and I could probably extract some keywords from it.

The book contained the parties and profiles of the thirteen clans of vampires, and I saw a familiar rose on one of the pages. That was the mark Noah had given me, the symbol of the Toreador clan, a group of vampires who belonged to the League of Secrets and were called "artists" hundreds of years ago, a group of vampires who sought beauty and hated officialdom. But hundreds of years have passed, their elders and the secret party people mixed together, just for the pursuit of power. So it seems that Noah is the most Toreador leader.

I continued flipping backwards through the books and finally saw the crown symbol, the Lasombra clan, my mother's family. No, we are the authority itself. We were born leaders, and our great strength and ferocious nature put us at the top of our kind. But my mother was clearly an anomaly among them, and I couldn't imagine how she escaped the rape of their leader.

I closed the book, excitement coursing through my blood. On the day of my complete awakening, ruling the lowly vampires would be a difficult task, especially since there were so many of them. But once they had obeyed, my pride swelled completely in my chest. Turns out it was my bloodline that was ruling my emotions, and I didn't like it.

"How do you feel?" Nathan suddenly asked me. I knew that although he didn't seem to care on the surface, there was still some fear in his heart about the future of his awakening.

"It's weird, but I've gotten a lot stronger."
