Estelle's POV

The man in front of me was a vampire, but his eyes weren't like any vampire I'd ever seen. They were a red that churned in the dark, like lava. The man's high cheekbones and brow bones deepened the shadows on his face, and his long black hair cascaded in curls above his shoulders. He wore a long black robe with an intricate pattern embroidered in gold thread. Now even nobles don't wear such elaborate clothes, the kind I've only seen on ancient portraits.

I couldn't see reason in the man's eyes, which made me even angrier. What the hell had he done to Nathan? The man raises his cane, the ruby at the top of which cuts across my cheek.

"This is a surprise." The man looked at me with a look of madness mixed with obsession.

"What have you done with Nathan?" I made a sound through my teeth.

"I helped him find his true self." The man made an exaggerated gesture as he stared at me with a deadly stare, "Tell me your mother's name."

I just stared at the man with my mouth tightly shut, what did he want? His bizarre costume and crazy eyes made my heart pound but he didn't press me further.

"Damn werewolves!" His nostrils twitched slightly, then his dark eyebrows furrowed "She'd rather have a lowly animal."

As the man muttered to himself, the pressure on me finally eased. I was thinking in my head about how I was going to get Nathan and Mia out of this hellhole. I could hear the sound of broken bones healing in Mia's body, and she was about to wake up. I had to do it, in order to give them a chance to survive.

In the next second, my claws were next to the man's neck. But the man's cane also swiped at my claws with great speed. I held back the intense pain in my hand and brought up my left foot to kick the man in the stomach. The man dodged backwards and we finally pulled apart.

"Be a good girl and don't make me angry." The man's voice was as hoarse as if it had been polished with rough sandpaper, and his tone carried the condescension of an emperor.

Not far away the frequency of Mia's breathing changed and she woke up. I looked over at her, and her eyes glowed with anger. I shot her a wink.

"Fuck you good girl." I pulled Nathan off the ground and ran in the opposite direction of the man, taking Nathan with me at a much slower pace. The man caught up with me immediately, and he flashed in front of me in a very dramatic way.

"Where else do you want to run to?"

Mia suddenly attacked him from behind and he turned around to block Mia's attack. My strength finally exploded and I pierced the man's body with my claws from behind. The man stood still like a puppet that had lost its strings, head hanging low.

The warm, sticky blood stained my hands, and an intoxicating sweetness spread through the air. The man suddenly raised his hand with the cane, and before we could react, he struck Mia in the chest. mia took a few steps backwards, covering her chest, blood oozing from her clenched teeth.

"You guys think that's enough to kill a vampire?" An exaggerated chuckle escaped the man's lips.

"I'll try a few more times." I drew my hand inside his body and attacked him in the head.

"Don't bother." The lava in the man's eyes turned bright red and it was hard to move as if my body was frozen again. The man wrapped his arms around me from behind, his face close to mine. "You haven't tasted the blood of a purebred vampire, have you?"
