Ryn's pov
The pungent smell of burnt toast wafted through my nostrils causing me to wake up from my sleep. My drowsy eyes forced its way open and I let out a grumble of displeasure at being woken up by the suffocating smell of the toast.
Then the deafening sound of the fire alarm had my heart wrenching as I quickly got off the bed in a hast. My feet moved in a quick pace as I rushed to the door. Fumbling with the lock I successfully opened it only to be greeted by a cloud of smoke. I let out a cough as my lungs burned.
Feeling my heart drop to my stomach at the sight of the obvious smoke, I run to the direction of the kitchen. What greeted me was not what I was expecting. A bare backed Ace with only black boxers on, stood directly before the stove that was apparently lit on fire.
I came to a complete halt as I watch him battle with outing the fire. I didn't know if to be amused at the sight of a grown man holding a kitchen towel and using it to fight off a fire. Or be completely pissed that the fire was now burning my cupboards and he was losing the battle.
I settled for the latter and grabbed the fire extinguisher that was beside the kitchen counter. I walked to the stove and pulled the pin and aimed at the fire that was currently rising higher. Pointing the extinguisher nozzle to the fire I squeezed the handle to release the extinguishing agent. Sweeping from side to side the fire was now dying out until it was out.
I examined the damage and turned my accusing eyes to a nervous looking Ace. The sight of his toned muscles nearly distracted me but one glance at my burnt cupboards made any thought of swooning die out. I clenched my teeth and threw the extinguisher on the floor with a loud thud.
"Ace what the fuck?" I said slowly like I was talking to a child. His eyes shifted from my face and the now black cupboard in guilt. He scratched the back of his nape with his free hand that wasn't holding the destroyed kitchen towel.
"I was trying to make breakfast for the both of us." He uttered embarrassed. He bit his bottom lip as he studied the damage he had caused.
My eyes turned to slits of rage, but not because he literally burnt half my kitchen but because his words had touched me in a way it shouldn't have. I walked towards him and not so gently pried the kitchen towel away from him.
"Rule number one, stay away from my kitchen, anything that has to do with cooking will not be your responsibility." I declared and walked to the trash to throw the burnt kitchen towel into it.
I turned to face him again and arched my brow in confusion. "Why were you cooking toast on the stove?" I asked.
"You don't seem to have a toaster." He answered.
I shifted my eyes to look at the toaster I had placed on the counter. It could easily be spotted and I nodded my head towards it. "Oh look a toaster." I spoke up sarcastically. He moved his head to look at the toaster that was in broad daylight and let out an embarrassed cough.
"I didn't see it." He grumbled.
"Yeah like you didn't see the extinguisher, Dumbass." I replied, sarcasm dripped from my tone.
His alluring eyes turned into slits of displeasure as he opened his mouth to speak out but was interrupted by the siren of an incoming fire truck. My eyes widened in panic as it stopped near my house. I bolted towards the front door and peeked through the glass to see what was going on.
The sight of four firefighters stepped down the truck and proceeded to my house. I stepped away from the door only to bump into Ace who was directly behind me. I moved away from him and glared at his head.
"This is all your fault!" I mouthed to him.
"This wouldn't have happened if you had placed the toaster somewhere I could actually see it." He gritted out.
"You little piece o-" I was cut off by the urgent banging on the door.
I sighed and gave Ace a pointed look hoping he wouldn't cause more trouble. Or worse being recognized by one of the firefighters. Even though the Reeds had a reputation in this town no one really had seen Ace's face except for Nate and me. Well also the dead people he had killed but that could hardly count. But it was still a possibility they could have had a glimpse of the notorious Ace.
