"That is the nastiest black eye I've ever seen." Jess says.
We're at the café on campus drinking our usual Frappuccino. "Gee thanks." I say from behind my huge black sunglasses.
She grins. "I mean it with love. At least you have big sunglasses."
I take a sip of my Frappuccino. "Yeah, they help. Out of all the people that ball could've hit of course it had to be me. You were standing right next to me. Why didn't it hit you?"
"Who knows? Maybe Overton was aiming for me since I never texted him back. Sorry if it was meant for me." She joked.
"I'm so glad my face caught it instead of yours." I say sarcastically. "I'm going to have a black eye forever."
"No, you won't, it will go away eventually."
"I look horrendous. Ian isn't even going to want to have sex with me looking like this."
She laughed. "It will still feel the same in the dark. No worries." She grins. "Are you glaring at me? I can't tell behind those glasses."
"Yes, I'm glaring at you." I tell her.
"Okay, making sure." She looks up. "There's Owen. Owen!" She waves at him and he heads toward us.
"Really?" I whisper.
"What?"
"The less people who see me like this the better!" I hiss.
"Hey, Jess, Kamdyn. How's your eye?" He asks me.
I look up and smile. "It's fine. A lot better." I take a sip of my frap.
"Let me make it up to you. Are you free tonight? I can take you to dinner."
I shake my head. "No, it's okay, really. Besides, you're not the one who hit me in the face."
"No, but my cousin did so I feel responsible." I take in his black t-shirt that barely conceals his hard chest beneath the thin fabric. His dark hair is cut short and his dark brown eyes are looking at me beneath long dark lashes. He really is cute and I know most girls swoon from the sight of him. If I wasn't so in love with Ian, I'd be one of them. The guy is hot and even though I know he knows it he doesn't come off as cocky like Ian does.
"Don't worry about it. Really, it's fine."
He shrugs. "Okay. I'm glad you're okay, you hit the ground pretty hard. Believe me, I know what that's like."
"Thanks. Yeah, I'm tougher than I look."
"I don't doubt it. You got up like a champ too. I've seen guys twice your size not get up from a hit like that." He said sounding impressed. "I have to go, but I'll see you around."
"Bye." I say with a wave.
"What is wrong with you? He's so hot and he wants to take you on an actual date which is more than you can say for Ian." Jess says as soon as he walks away. Does she have to ask? It should be clear to her why I turned him down, I'm so hung up on Ian I don't really notice anyone else.
"I'm not interested. Besides, he just feels bad for yesterday."
"He's just saying that so he's not so obvious, trust me, he's into you."
He laughs. "Francis."
"What? No, it's not!"
He nods. "I swear. It's Francis Overton the third."
"What? There are two other men out there named Francis Overton?" I can't help but laugh, poor guy, no wonder everyone calls him by his last name. "Well he's forgiven for hitting me in the face, with a name like that he's been punished enough." I joke. I take Ian's baseball cap off his head and place it on mine.
He grins. "My cap even looks sexier on you."
"Even with the black eye?"
"Especially with the black eye." He leans in and kisses me.
"Gross you guys! PDA!" Jess yells. "You're going to make me gag."
We laugh at her but quit kissing. "We'll save it for later." He gives me a wink. "Are you skipping class? If you are I can skip my last one and take care of you."
"Yeah, I bet you'll take care of her." Jess says.
I stick my tongue out at her but grin from ear to ear. Ian wraps his arm around my shoulders and takes a drink of my Frappuccino. "You don't have to skip class. I'll be okay to sit through my next one then I'll meet you at your house."
"Are you okay to drive?"
He's been babying me ever since I left the hospital yesterday, not that I'm complaining, I'm enjoying the attention. He fed me in bed and helped me shower this morning, which to my dismay didn't lead to anything other than a shower for the first time ever even though I knew he was just as turned on as I was. I already knew Ian was sweet but with the way he's been treating me lately I'm going to be spoiled. He'd make the perfect boyfriend if only I can make him see that. I really wished he would just make it official already! It's hard not to fall even more in love with someone as perfect as Ian.
