|Nate|

I could feel the blood pounding in my ears. Kade's words still rang torturously in my mind.

I had to protect Verena.

"Nate. Listen to me." Trevor's voice broke me out of my thoughts.

"Do you think you can move your hands a little?"

Both our arms and legs were bound with rope and we were sitting with our backs towards each other. My hands were tied tightly behind my back at the wrists but I could move my palms and fingers a little bit.

"I think so." I responded.

"Reach into my back pocket, I can't do it myself, you'll find my reading glasses. They didn't take them away fortunately." He ordered.

"What?" I asked incredulously.

Has he lost it?

"Just do it!" His voice laced with impatience.

I didn't argue any further. I reached into his back pocket and extracted the glasses without much difficulty.

"Got them."

I could feel him heave a sigh of relief.

"Good. Now the next part is going to be a little painful." His voice sounded apologetic, "I need you to break them."

My brain finally caught on to what he was trying to do.

I knew what he meant by painful. I'd have to crush the glasses with my hands, since there was no other way.

I took in a deep breath before closing my fist around the glasses and squeezing hard. They broke easily, the jagged pieces of glass cut into my palm. I could feel the blood oozing down.

"It's done." I grunted.

"Okay, now take a suitable sized piece of glass and start cutting through the ropes around my wrists. I'll do yours as soon as I'm free."

I was on it even before he finished his sentence.

Twenty painful minutes later I was finally able to cut through.

Trevor quickly undid the ropes around his ankles and moved to help me.

Once I was free I tore a piece of my shirt and wound it over my bleeding palm.

"There's an armed man guarding the door." Trevor informed me.

I nodded. "I have a plan. We need to go back and resume our previous positions on the floor. We'll take him by surprise."

Trevor smirked. "I'll disarm him, you take him down."

As soon as we were seated Trevor started screaming.

I had to refrain myself from covering my ears.

Soon enough, the door slammed open and a burly man with a rifle in his hand stepped inside.

"Shut up before I shoot you!" He growled.

Trevor didn't stop his howling.

The man narrowed his eyes. "That's it!" He snapped and he started moving forward, his gun aimed.

"Now!" I shouted and we both lunged.

He was too startled to react. "What the-"

We tackled him before he got a chance to finish his sentence.

Trevor went for his rifle as I charged toward his torso. I pinned him to the floor with my body.

"Is there anyone else outside?" Trevor demanded aiming the rifle at the man's head.

The man scowled but answered him nonetheless. "No, I was alone."

I smashed my elbow into the side of his head knocking him out cold.

"Nicely done." Trevor complimented, I nodded my head.

"Let's go." I said walking towards the door, Trevor following close behind.

There was no one outside just as the man had told us.

"It's only a matter of time before they realize that we're free, we need to get out of here before then." Trevor spoke up.

I knew we were inside some sort of warehouse, it was pretty dark inside, the only source of light was a small window several feet above the ground, luckily within our reach.

"We can break out through this window, let me check if the coast is clear."

I peeked out and breathed a sigh of relief. There was no one standing nearby. I could make out the gates of the warehouse opening from a distance as a black SUV entered.

That was our exit!

It was only being guarded by two men, we could easily take them out.

We broke the glass, careful not to make too much noise.

"I'm going first." I informed Trevor.

I climbed out easily and waited for him to follow. Once he was out I told him my plan.

"You see that gate. That's our exit. There are two men guarding it, I'll take the one on the left and you take the one on the right. Their backs are to us so we can sneak up to them and easily take them down. We're not going to use the gun, just make sure they don't get a chance to fire theirs either. Gunshots will draw attention."

Trevor gave me a nod.

We started moving in opposite directions.

I slowly made my way forward, the man who was supposed to be my target was still several feet away. I turned around to check on Trevor but didn't spot him. My eyebrows drew together in concern.

I should be able to see him.

Was he captured?
