Ring... Ring… Ring…

I let out a frustrated moan and looked for my phone which was ringing by the way early in the morning!

After Travis’s late night activities since I moved here I haven’t had one single day and night good sleep and now that I was able to sleep my stupid phone just have to ring!

I answered the call and only realised that it was one in the afternoon, oh well… it’s weekends so it doesn’t matter.

I heard nervous shuffling on the other side of the phone and I was starting to get impatient.

“I swear if you don’t answer I will—” I was cut off by my rant when I finally heard the voice I long to

hear.

“Hey Mare… it’s me Ethan…” I heard Ethan’s deep voice nervously say, the moment I heard his voice I felt a massive lump stuck on my throat. I was shock and happy at the same time but I won’t show him that, I mean I’m still mad at him for leaving and only calling me once.

“Ethan…? Ethan who…?” I decided to play with him when I heard him let out a sigh.

“That’s just mean Mare,” he said and knowing him I bet he was pouting right now and I can’t help

but chuckle.

“Sorry…” I said in a baby voice and that made him chuckle. Hearing him laugh was enough for me to

know that he’s slowly healing… somehow…

“So… how have you been?” I asked

“Pretty good actually, although there’s a really annoying snail sticking to me every time but nonetheless everything’s good…” he said

“Snail, huh?” I said knowing by the way he mentioned this ‘snail’ I knew that there’s already someone to keep an eye on him for me and I’m happy for him.

“I heard that you haven’t been eating properly again, your mom’s worried…” I don’t know what came over me but I press the end button and hung up on him, I let out an empty laugh and wondered what a great friend he was.

Jerk.

What a truly great friend!

He only called because someone asked him to, such a good friend!

I scan through my phone for his number and was about to delete it when he called.

I hesitated before answering but finally I gave up and answered it.

“Look, listen before you hung up ok? I know I haven’t been calling you and I know I’ve been selfish recently but I want to say I’m sorry, stop locking up yourself and go meet new people, I know it’s hard but you have to try… what happened to you in the past leave it behind, Mare…?” after he stopped I thought for a second, can I really forget about the past?

“I have to go help my uncle so I’m gonna’ go now—wait—start eating ok?” he said and I just mumbled a yes before I hung up.

Forget about the past?

Easy for you to say because you’re no longer here, you ran away and left me behind… it’s not that

easy… I need you… I’m too weak… I can’t protect myself… from them and from him… I need you but

you left me behind.

Maybe… I should listen to him and try… just this once…

I let out a sigh and dragged my body to the bathroom and quickly had a shower.

After I was done getting change I went downstairs with everyone surprised by my presence.

“MARE!” my mom squealed, she hurriedly walked towards me and ushered me to eat since I haven’t

been eating properly for a long time.

“I’m so glad you finally left your room!” my mom squealed and I just smiled at her.

“Yeah, thank Ethan,” I murmured.

“Me and Andy are going away for a week for a business trip, will you be ok?” she asked and I just

nodded.

“That’s good, you need to have some time alone with him as well,” I said and she blushed.

“Well Travis will be here to look after you anyway,” she said

“But I’m already old enough!” I protested but I knew that she wouldn’t change her mind. I mean

come on I’m already a senior in high school! I’m freaking 18!

I just gave up and finished my food and made my way upstairs to my bedroom.
