Samantha’s POV

Even though I was freaking out inside, I couldn’t just bury my head in the sand and stay quiet. I had promised Clara a sleepover, and she had invited four of her little friends. Besides, we had already prepared everything the day before, so I had to keep our arrangement.

“My goddess, you’re truly a wonderful sight,” Henry got up from the couch and came towards me. “Are you feeling better?” he asked while hugging me.

“Yes, I am.” I gave him a quick kiss.

“My loves, here’s the thing – today is Clara’s sleepover, so I’d like to ask the boys to stay out of the girls‘ way. We’re going to use the game room,” I announced and saw Clara’s little face light up.

“I can cancel with the girls since you’re not feeling well,” she offered kindly.

“No way! I’m looking forward to this.” I smiled at her.

“Does this mean we can’t play video games?” Enzo asked with a worried look.

“Exactly!” I confirmed.

“It’s okay, Enzo, we’ll stay out of the girls‘ way. Patrick is inviting us to play at his place, the guys want to practice to beat Manu. That little one destroyed us the other day,” Henry laughed, remembering the impromptu video game championship.

“That undercover nerd destroyed us. It was embarrassing!” Enzo lamented.

“Sam, invite your friends to the sleepover too,” Clara suggested excitedly.

“Good idea, Clara, I’ll do that.” I immediately grabbed my phone and made plans with the girls.

At the scheduled time, everyone arrived, and the fun began. The night turned out to be quite entertaining after all. Around two in the morning, Clara and her friends were already sleeping, scattered across the mattresses in the game room, and I decided to leave them there since they were comfortable.

“Now that the girls are asleep, Sam, you can start talking,” Melissa didn’t even give me time to breathe.

“What do you mean?” I asked, playing dumb.

“Something’s wrong, you can’t fool me. You’ve been very distracted.” Melissa had been watching me all night, and I hadn’t even noticed.

“Well, you’re right.” I sighed. “Girls, I need to tell you something, but this has to stay between us, at least for now.”

“Oh, you’re already making me worried.” Virginia studied my face.

“I’m pregnant,” I said straightforwardly. I heard them all squeal with excitement at the same time, excitement that I didn’t share.

“Sam, that’s wonderful! I didn’t know you and Henry were thinking about having kids.” Catherine was euphoric; from her experience, motherhood was the best thing in the world.

“Well, Cat, that’s the problem – we weren’t. And as far as I know, Henry never wanted to be a father.” I explained my concern.

“Yeah, now I understand.” Melissa was very serious. “He really never wanted to be a father. But things have changed, Sam, maybe this has changed in his mind too.”

“I don’t know, Mel, I don’t know how to tell him. I’m afraid he might leave me because of this.” Saying my worries out loud only made me more nervous.
