Melissa answered on the first ring, excited as always.

“My most obedient pupil! I was just thinking about how long it would take you to call me.”

“How did you know I would call you?” I asked, laughing.

“Little Key, I know everything. Come on, tell me, when is Flavian going to give you your first kiss?”

I called Flavian to tell him I wouldn’t be going to college and he didn’t need to pick me up, as Melissa would drop me off at his place at eight. But he couldn’t simply accept that; he had to ask questions.

“What happened, little one? Is something wrong?” Flavian asked worriedly.

“Can’t you just be happy that I’ll be there earlier?” I tried to change the subject, as I didn’t know how to explain to him that Melissa was going to do God–knows–what with me for our first night.

“Of course I’m happy, little one. Very! But I’m curious. You said you couldn’t miss class today.”

“Yeah, I did.” I sighed. “Look, apparently I need to prepare for tonight.”

‘Ah, I get it!” Flavian chuckled. “Little one, I’m excited.”

“Me too,” I smiled at his confession.
