Flavian’s POV

Sabrina had already started tormenting me again; the lice incident didn't keep her away for long. I was getting more and more nervous, unable to resolve things, and each day I felt that Manu was growing more suspicious that something was wrong.

But you know how it goes - nothing is so bad that it can't get worse. I was at the police station, having just finished taking a prisoner's statement and completing the arrest report, when Bonfim entered my office accompanied by the lawyer who was handling my almost-divorce situation.

"Just the person I was most eager to see!" I said upon seeing the lawyer. "Dr. Castle, please tell me you have good news." Did I sound like I was begging? Yes, because I actually was.

"Detective Moreno, it is good news, but it might cause you a more turbulent period."

"More turbulent than it's been so far? Impossible. But go ahead, what's new?"

"The judge has scheduled a hearing, wants you and Sabrina face to face, and wants to hear from both of you. I accompanied the court officer who served her the summons today, and she caused quite a scene at that hotel," the lawyer informed me of something I really wasn't expecting.

"But doctor, shouldn't the judge just review the motion and give her time to respond before making the final decision? Why did he schedule a hearing?" I asked, thinking this hearing would be a horror show.

"Generally, that's how it works in cases like this, the judge only works with written motions and responses in the case, but exceptionally they can schedule a hearing with both parties. In your case, he thought it better to schedule a hearing, since the previous judge has retired," the lawyer explained, but I was dreading having to go through a hearing where Sabrina would make a scene and stress me out even more.

"Fine. What can you do! And when is this hearing?" I asked, annoyed.

"Two months from now, we'll need to prepare, which means we'll schedule some meetings. But Flavian, this woman is furious, she might try to pressure you somehow," the lawyer warned me.

"Thanks for the heads up."

"Another thing, I spoke with Detective Mariangela before coming here, they haven't found the lawyer who obtained the annulment yet. She's going to call Sabrina in for questioning, but I asked her to do it quickly, before the hearing. If your father is behind this, which I think he is, when he learns about the investigation, he'll leave the girl alone and won't get involved anymore."

"I see. But wouldn't it be better to wait? Maybe alerting them might give them time to set a trap." I wondered if the lawyer was taking the best approach.

"No. Your father is a very intelligent man. If we act quickly, he won't risk it, especially when he learns that the judge and the detective are incorruptible, that they won't give in to his wishes. And if Sabrina is left alone, she'll back down and accept the divorce, maybe even tell everything to the detective. Moreover, with the investigation moving forward, the judge will feel more confident in reinstating the divorce decree," the lawyer explained in detail.

"Right. So that's it. Wait for the bomb to explode and Sabrina to have a meltdown," I lamented.

"More or less," the lawyer laughed. "But soon you'll be free."

I won't be able to keep this from the little one as briefly as I'd like - I would have to continue hiding it for two more months. The lawyer said goodbye and rushed out to another appointment. Bonfim remained seated, looking at me as if he wanted to say something.
