“Chester, what are you doing?”

In the basement studio, Alexander brought Megan along when he came to see Chester. 

Recently, Megan had  

been spending time with Rosalind every day, and Rosalind tagged along this time as well. 

Hearing that Chester was working on software development, Rosalind couldn’t resist asking questions. 

“Are you doing it all by yourself?” 

“Yes.” 

“Can I take a look?” 

“No,” Chester replied bluntly. 

Alexander nearly choked on his water. Rosalind was Megan’s best friend, and if she got upset, Megan would surely vent her anger on him. 

“It’s a trade secret, Rosalind. No one can see it until it’s officially released.” 

“Sorry, I’m just really curious. What exactly does this software do?” 

“Entertainment. 

“In what form? Text or…” 

Megan cleared her throat and said, “Rosalind, he already said it’s a trade secret. 

Rosalind laughed. “Sorry, I’m just curious about fields I don’t know much about.” 

Chester nodded. “Did you study design?” 

“Yes, Megan and I both studied design. But our work is relatively simple, nowhere near as technically demanding as software development 

The two of them struck up a conversation. 

Meanwhile, Angelina had bought some expensive fruits on her way over as she figured there might be several people at Chester’s place. Even though he had gone bankrupt, his friends were still picky. 

The cherries cost over 40 dollars, and the grapes were also quite expensive. Angelina carried the fruits over happily. 

As she neared the basement studio, she saw several luxury cars parked outside. 

It was already getting dark. Two women passed by the entrance, supporting each other. One of them, seemingly drunk, kicked a car tire and shouted, “So what if you’re rich?” 

Chapter 2 

Angelina was speechless. 

“Chester, I actually understand nothing about this. Fashion design focuses on styles. What about software development?” 

“Software development…” 

Before Angelina could push open the door, she saw through the small gap that Chester and Rosalind were sitting together, chatting and laughing. 

Rosalind rested her chin on her hand as she smiled at Chester, and their gazes lingered on each other in a moment of unspoken connection 

Angelina froze for a moment, painfully realizing that she was just a side character. 

She carried her fruits and turned to leave. In her haste, she accidentally kicked a stick outside. She grabbed onto the door frame, startled. Then, she sat down on the ground. 

“Who’s there? Who’s outside?” 

Joshua rushed over, thinking their rival had sent someone to spy on them. But as he got closer, he saw Angelina sitting on the ground with a flushed face. 

“A–Angelina.” 

Chester immediately stood up. “What are you doing here?” 

“I just came to check on you.” 

He reached out his hand. “Are you alright?” 

“I’m fine.” 

Chester crouched down, supporting her waist gently and helping her up. 

“I’ll head back, then.” Angelina let go of his hand. “I didn’t fall. I just sat on the ground. Your mom made soup and told me to go back.” 

“Angelina! Angelina!” Chester chased after her. “Angelina.” 

She stopped in her tracks. “Go do your stuff. I need to go back to have the soup. It won’t taste good if it gets cold.” 

“I’ll drive you back. Let me grab my car keys.” 

“Your friends are still there. I’ll walk back by myself. Walking helps with labor.” 

Angelina crossed the zebra crossing, and a gust of wind blew against her. She raised her hand to touch her face. Was it raining? No, it turned out she was crying. 

As it turned out, there was a significant difference between being a reader and being directly 

involved. 

As a reader, she just shipped the official couple and would feel all warm and fuzzy inside when she read about them. 

But now, as the side character, she found herself jealous of Chester and Rosalind. 

Chester turned back and looked at the fruits Joshua was holding. “Did she bring fruits for us?” 

Ever since she agreed to have the child and give their relationship another shot, she had changed quite a bit. She was behaving like a goodmother and wife. 

“Angelina!” Chester chased after her again, but she was already gone. 

“Chester, what’s wrong?” 

“Nothing. Eat the fruits.” 

Angelina hurried back home, her mind full of romantic scenes between Chester and Rosalind. 

In the novel, after meeting Rosalind, Chester would spoil her endlessly and give her all his affection. Rosalind became the envy of everyone in Brookhaven as his beloved wife. 

There were also many intimate descriptions. 

With just one sentence, Angelina could imagine ten more vivid ones. But now, those same lines weighed heavily on her heart. 

“Angelina, where are you? Where’s my package? 

“Package?” 

“Yeah, the package you picked up for me. I had someone send over a set of client information. I need it to find clients to start a collaboration.” 

Angelina glanced at her empty hands. “Where are you? I think I left it at the grocery store.” 

“Seriously? How could you forget that?“. 

Angelina stayed silent, and Isadora sighed. “What are you doing? I asked you to pick it up so that I could see it first thing after work. But you.. 

“I’m sorry.” 

“Which grocery store?” 

As Angelina tried to recall, Isadora walked out of the apartment. “Which grocery store is it? The document inside is confidential.” 

After they retrieved the document, they went back. Emily was waiting anxiously. 

“Why were you out for so long? Did you two run into each other?” 

“We did.” 

Emily served a bowl of chicken noodle soup for Angelina, and Angelina ate half of it reluctantly. 

Just then, Chester returned home. 

“Chester, dinner’s ready.” 

Chester sat down next to Angelina, and she continued eating her soup as if nothing had happened. Actually, she had come to terms with it. Having a child would secure her wealth and
