Upon seeing Nolan walk in through the door, both Franklin and Julia stood up to greet him. 

Upon seeing Julia, there was no surprise on Nolan’s face. 

Julia politely introduced herself again, “Hello, Mr. Nolan. My name is Julia Brown. We met before at the technology exhibition-” 

“I know,” Nolan replied, his face neutral, extending his hand to shake hers.

Nolan simply responded with a brief “Mm.” 

At this moment, Franklin’s phone rang. He stood up, saying to Nolan and Julia, “I’ll step out to take this call. Please, continue your discussion.” 

Julia nodded. 

After Franklin left, Julia picked up the menu and handed it to Nolan, saying, “Mr. Nolan, let’s order first and then chat while we eat?” 

Nolan pushed the menu aside, saying, “Not yet.” 

Julia paused, not sure of what he meant. Before she could react, Nolan directly spoke, “Do you want to be my student?” 

Julia hadn’t expected him to be so direct. 

Nolan was straightforward, and despite his status as one of the top figures in the AI field, Julia wasn’t intimidated. Calmly and confidently, she admitted, 

“Yes, I am very interested in the AI field, and I hope to learn from you to achieve even greater progress.” 

Since she had come to meet Nolan, she had prepared well in advance.

She spoke continuously for over ten minutes, during which Franklin returned briefly to take another important phone call. 

As Julia was about to continue her explanation, Nolan suddenly looked up and said, “That’s enough.” 

Julia paused. 

Nolan stood up and gave his final evaluation: “Your fundamental knowledge is fairly solid, but it’s not quite up to my standards for accepting students.” 

Julia froze for a moment, then bit her lip.

Just as his words fell, Franklin returned. 

Before he could speak, Nolan said, “I’ve done what I needed to do. I’ll contact you again in a few days.” 

Franklin replied, “Alright.” 

With that, Nolan left without another word. 

Franklin looked at Julia, noticing her poor moot. He asked, “Is the result not what you expected?” 

Julia nodded. “He didn’t accept me.”
