She looked at my out stretched hand and took it. We walked out of the room and John was eyeing us. Well, considering I didn't want to talk to her earlier it would look a little strange that we were hand in hand. He didn't stop us though; he just let us walk out of the basement and through the house. Grace gripped my hand tighter as people eyed us walking through the house. I didn't pay attention to them really, I just kept on walking. I didn't care what they were saying or how they were looking at us. I wanted answers. I wanted to go back and show her how that day played out.

"Where are we going?" she asked as we entered the woods.

"Some place where that holds something I don't know how to deal with," I told her.

If you haven't figured it out yet I am taking her to the clearing where my mother was killed. It looked the same. The trees, the flowers, the way it makes you feel happy the minute you enter it. I walked over to the place my mother had died. In my head I could see her bloody broken wolf lying on the ground. Grace walked over to me and looked down at the ground in front of me.

"This is where it happened, didn't it?" she asked

I nodded. She got up and walked around the clearing taking it all in. She touched the trees and picked some flowers, but said nothing. I could see it in her eye that she was longing to ask the question, how did it happen? I took it a liberty to explain it to her.

"He came from that direction," I said motioning toward one of the entrances into the clearing, "They struggled a little and then he sunk his teeth into her neck and threw her into that tree," I said pointing to the tree.

Grace had tears in her eyes and was shaking her head.

"She fell to the ground and watched me try and stand up to Charlie. He laughed at her. He laughed at my dying mother because she tried to help you," I told her.

At this point we were both crying and Grace came up to me giving me a hug. I wrapped my arms around her and cried my eyes out.

"Why her?" I said to myself more than to Grace.

"I don't know," she simply replied.

We stood there in a peaceful silence and I could sense that my mom was there in that moment. In that peace I didn't need to know why. I didn't need any answers, I didn't want any. I wanted to not feel the loss or the guilt of not being able to do anything anymore. In that moment I could feel that my mom was at peace with me not knowing because sometimes ignorance is bliss. I may not be able to forgive Charlie but I could live with not knowing the details of why or why not. I could deal with that and that was the best peace I ever felt.

"Thank you," I said to her.

I could feel her smile and she whispered back to me, "No.....thank you."

All of a sudden I felt Grace tense.

"I am sorry, Beautiful."

"I was out for a run and I smelled my baby over there," he said nodding his head toward Grace, "I thought I might go check on how she was doing," he said smiling at her.

Grace's face turned red and she tried to hide her happiness that he cared to check on her. For some reason, it was nice to see the nice side of Charlie but I still didn't trust him or think that he had changed.

"You saw her. She is fine. You can go now," I told him.

His eyes became daggers and he growled, "Don't tell me when I can and can't see my mate," he told me.

I could see his wolf fighting him to take over. His arms began to shake and his hands formed into a tight fist. His chest began to violently move up and down and his breath was coming faster and faster. Grace began to run to his side when I grabbed her holding her in place.

She looked at me shocked, "I have to help him."

I shook my head, "No, I can't let you do that Grace," I told her.

She pulled her arm out of my grasp and ran to him.
