Noelle looked up. "Fair enough. How about I give you all one more night to figure out who will take the fall?"
Donovan's facial expression instantly changed.
Her smile widened. "This includes you, too. I'll accept it if you're willing to take on all the blame and go to prison."
He was utterly speechless.
She forcefully brushed his hand away. "Clearly, you don't want to take responsibility, so why pretend to be the good guy?"
"Noelle, do you think I'm pretending to be a good guy? I'm doing this for the family!"
"Oh? How about I apologize if you take the fall and go to prison? Are you willing to bet on that?" Noelle smiled and gave Donovan a long, piercing glance.
She had seen through his arrogance, as well as his well-hidden hypocrisy and selfishness. Although she had already put everything on the table, he still tried to guilt trip her! Since he was stubborn, she wouldn't hold back now.
Donovan said nothing, his expression as dark as night.
Noelle turned and left with a graceful stride; this time, he didn't follow her. As expected, she hadn't been wrong.
What they said was wrong. Their blood was not thicker than water, and all of that was nothing but a facade of a hypocritical family.
Noelle turned around but bumped into Cedric, Alfred, and Magnus at the stairs. She paused for a moment. "You all heard that?"
Cedric gazed deeply at her and patted her shoulder. "Well done. Let's go back to the lounge and talk."
It was only then that Noelle realized they had all been listening. She felt a bit embarrassed.
Back in the lounge, it was just the four of them.
Magnus couldn't help but speak up, "Why did you say you would apologize to him in the end? Why should you apologize?"
Alfred raised an eyebrow. "It's a strategy. Don't you get it?"
Noelle smiled. "I said that on purpose because I know him. He's not going to take on the responsibility."
