I promised Jess that I would at least try to give Owen a chance, so I agreed to go out with him. We decided on a movie and dinner. I wore a pair of jeans and a thin burgundy sweater and straightened my hair. We watched a movie first and Owen didn't even try to put his arm around me like most guys do. We went to a nearby Italian restaurant and Owen even pulled my chair out for me.

"I'm glad you finally agreed to go out with me." Owen says. "I've had a little crush on you since sophomore year. You were talking to Taylor Harper at our party and when you walked off I asked him who you were. He said he knows you through his brother but you're with McAllister so I didn't even bother talking to you that night."

"Didn't you have a girlfriend then?"

"No, at the time she and I were broken up. We've been on and off ever since freshman

year. I thought you were beautiful but with the way Harper talked you were pretty much dating McAllister."

"We never dated. We've always just been friends."

"He's an idiot then, who wouldn't want to date you?"

I shrug. "He just doesn't do relationships."

"He should've made an exception for you, but I'm really glad he didn't."

Here I am on a date with this amazing guy and we're talking about Ian? Seriously? "I had no idea you've known me that long."

"Yeah, I've seen you around and thought about talking to you, but I just didn't see a point in it since you were with McAllister, then when I saw you at the party that night I had to talk to

you."

"So you really was just using my black eye as an excuse for a date?" Tim and Ian had been right the whole time.

He looked embarrassed. "Yeah, I'm sorry. I should've just asked you but...." He shrugs.

My phone dings and I look down at my phone on the table,

Ian: Wanna hang out tonight?

Me: I can't

Ian: Scared to be around me?

I wanted to end this and run to Ian's house, I'd rather be with Ian than anyone else. I

don't even care what we do as long as we do it together. I resist the urge to text him back and put my phone face down on the table.

"Everything okay?" Owen asks.

"Yeah, I just have to be honest with you. I'm not really ready for a relationship right now but I would love for us to be friends and get to know each other better."

"That sounds good to me. I don't want anything serious right now either. We'll just hang out and get to know each other."

"Good. I'd like that."

He grins. "Me too. I don't like bringing up my ex but I'm sure by now you've heard I cheated on her. I just want to explain what happened."

"No need, it's none of my business."

He shook his head. "No, I just want you to understand I'm not a cheater and that's the only time I've ever done it. We dated ever since our sophomore year in high school and when I got my scholarship she came to the same school as me because we didn't want to be apart from each other then everything changed our sophomore year of college, she became more distant and it could've been because of football, I practice a lot and a lot of girls, well you know how it is, anyway I don't think she liked all the attention I was getting and she stayed mad at me most of the time. It had been over for a while just neither of us were willing to admit it, we'd been together for so long, then the next thing I knew she told me she transferred to another school and neither of us ended it, we really should've. I hadn't heard from her in over a week and I know that's no excuse, but I was hurt and angry and it just happened. After I cheated on her I felt horrible so I told her about it and she dumped me. She made the right choice, we were both miserable."

"I'm sorry, Owen, I had no idea."

"Yeah, no one really knows exactly what happened, but I just wanted you to know it's true I did cheat on her but it's not something I do all the time. It was the only time I ever did it and I felt so bad about it I won't do it again."

"Did he buy you dinner?"

"Yes."

"Did he make a move on you?"

"No, he was a perfect gentleman."

"Is there going to be a second date?"

"Okay, enough with the questions. Why are you here?"

"I told you. To check on you."

"Nick!"

"Good night, Kamdyn." He grins at me before walking to his car.

I groan and walk into my house. Jess is sitting on the sofa. "How was the date?"

"Fine. Why is Nick sneaking out of our house in the middle of the night?"

"What? Was he peeking through the windows? Call the cops. I feel so dirty."

"Ha. Ha. What was he doing here, Jessica?"

"Kamdyn." She says in a stern voice. I cross my arms against my chest and glare at her.
