"So, how do we fix it?" Jess asks him. "We have to fix this. She.....really likes him too." She bumps me. "Don't you, Kamdyn?"
I bite my lip and nod, unable to speak over the lump in my throat. There's too many emotions at once and I've suddenly lost my voice. Ian actually likes me and that's why he's so pissed I went on a date with Owen. I can't believe this.
"You haven't been with Jacobs this whole time?" He asks me suspiciously.
"No, I swear I haven't, I don't even like him like that."
"She was only with him because I forced her into it." Jess admits. "I'm so sorry, Kamdyn."
"It's not your fault." I look at Nick. "You're his best friend, how do we fix this?"
He shrugs. "I don't know. I might be able to get him somewhere and you can show up
and tell him how you feel."
"But what if he doesn't talk to me? He told me to lose his number."
"We'll figure something out. Don't worry." He pulls me in for a hug. "We'll fix it. Okay. I'll talk to you later."
So Ian actually does like me, well he did like me, now he hates me for something I didn't even do. It's not fair, this entire time I've been obsessing over how he feels about me and now that I know he really did want to date me he won't even speak to me. I've really screwed this entire thing up and all I want to do is fix it. I have to fix it. He may not love me but he likes me enough to be mad I went on a date with another guy. I can work with that right?
Jess is talking about some guy she just met and I can't even focus on what she's saying, all I can think about is how much Ian hates me and that look of betrayal on his face. I didn't deserve that, I didn't do anything wrong.
"Hello, Kamdyn, you in there?" Jess asks.
"I'm sorry, I just zoned out." I take a bite of my hamburger and can't even taste it. I'm so upset I don't want to eat. I would never hurt Ian, and it breaks my heart that he's so mad at me.
"We're going to fix this, I promise, I got you into it and I'll get you out of it. He just has
to realize you didn't do anything wrong." I nod. "I'm going to talk to him."
"What? No!"
"Yes, I'll call him and put him on speaker so you can hear what he's saying."
My stomach knotted at that thought. "I don't think that's a good idea, besides, we're not in middle school anymore." I really didn't want to hear what he had to say about me because I know it would be bad. He hates me.
"It will be fine. That way you can tell me what you want me to say and you can hear his reaction."
"Let's just let Nick handle this, Jess."
She picks up her phone. "Now I know you've lost your mind if you think Nick can handle anything. What's his number?" We're sitting on the sofa eating our fast food burgers. Just talking about calling Ian has put my stomach in knots to the point where I no longer want to eat. I put my burger back in the wrapper and place it on the coffee table.
"Are you sure about this?" I had a really bad feeling about this but once Jess gets an idea there's no talking her out of it, besides she knows guys a lot better than I do, maybe she can actually help.
"Just trust me. What's his number?"
I tell her his number. My heart is beating out of my chest and I can barely breathe as the phone rings. "Just hang up." I tell her. Please don't answer, please don't answer. Just when I think he's not going to answer I hear his voice.
"Hello?" His voice is rough like she just woke him up.
"Ian?" She asks. She looks at me and grins.
"Yeah? Who's this?" Was his gruff reply.
"It's Jess, Kamdyn's friend."
"It doesn't matter it's over between us, she made the right choice ending it."
My heart ached at that. "You still like her, I know you do, and if you don't fix this with her you're dumber than I thought. She really likes you, she's just scared and doesn't know how to fix it. You need to talk to her before it's too late." He doesn't say anything. She gives me a smile. "She won't stay single forever. You and I both know that."
"She's not single now. She's dating Jacobs."
"She's not dating him. She went on one date with him and only because I told her to. Just talk to her, Ian."
"I've got to go. Bye, Jess."
"Okay, but just think about it. Talk to-" He hangs up the phone on her. "Nice talking to you too." She says rolling her eyes.
I slump back on the sofa. "He hates me." I grab a throw pillow and put it over my face.
"He doesn't hate you, his pride is just hurt. He's never had a girl be the one to end it before and you did. Plus, he thinks it's over another guy so his oversized ego is hurt. He'll get over it. Just give it some time."
"I can't believe you told him I like him."
"Hey, I had to tell him something he was about to hang up, at least I didn't say you love him."
"Yeah, thanks for that at least."
"Stop worrying about it, I'll fix it, I promise."
"Maybe he doesn't want it fixed, he said I made the right decision ending it."
"He doesn't mean that. He's just saying that because he's hurt. Just give him some time, he will come around."
