Jess and I were walking to get a Frappuccino when Jess elbows me, I look up and I see Ian and Nick walking in front of us on the sidewalk, they had no idea we were walking behind them. My heart starts to beat out of my chest just from the sight of him. "Talk to him." Jess whispers.
I shake my head. "I can't. He doesn't even want to be friends."
"That's not what Nick says." She tells me.
"What does he say?" I had to ask even though I'm pretty sure what Nick says isn't true.
"That Ian is crazy about you, and I believe him. He's pretty upset how the two of you left it the other night. Just go talk to him." She bumps me with her shoulder.
I sigh. "Okay. I'll talk to him."
She grins before yelling. "Nicky!"
Nick turns around and bumps Ian's shoulder who turns around too. Nick is grinning ear to ear as they walk toward us. "Hey, beautiful." He says to Jess. "Stalking me?"
"You caught me." Jess says. "I live to stalk you."
"Well, you can stalk me all you want." Nick grabs her by the waist and gives her a quick kiss.
"Hey." I tell Ian.
He nods at me but doesn't look too happy to see me. "Hey." He looks around, not even acknowledging me.
Jess nods her head for Nick to follow her and he does. I've never been this nervous in my
life. "Can I talk to you a second?"
He glances over at me. "Yeah, just make it quick, I've got stuff to do."
"It's about the other night I....." I trail off, noticing he's distracted and not paying attention to anything I'm saying.
He isn't even looking at me. In fact he's looking everywhere but me. "Can you look at me a sec?" I ask him. He turns his head toward me annoyance clear on his face. "I just thought maybe we should talk about the other night. What's wrong?" He's acting so weird this is so unlike Ian.
"Nothing, I'm just in a hurry, Kamdyn. What do you want to talk about?"
What do I want to talk about? The other night! Nick acted like Ian was upset about it but
now he's acting like it was no big deal. "If you're that much in a hurry it can wait. It's not that important." Just our future together if we do have a future together.
He shrugs. "Okay, see you around." He turns to walk away then stops and turns back to face me. "Can I ask you something?" I nod. "Where were you before you came to my house?"
"What?"
"The night you came over. Where were you? You never said."
"Oh, um...." I tucked my hair behind my ear, this is so not what I wanted to talk about. "I
was hanging out with Owen."
"No, you were on a date with him. Right? I mean that's what you told Nick."
Is that what this is about? Because I was with Owen that night? "It wasn't really a date we were just hanging out."
He grabs the bill of his hat and adjusts it. "Stop it. Just stop it. Okay? You know you could've just told me."
"What?"
"You could've just told me you didn't want to hook up anymore because you're dating Jacobs instead of making me think this entire thing was because some chick kissed me. I really thought you broke it off because you were jealous, but the truth is you were seeing Jacobs behind my back." He's so pissed he's shaking, I've never seen Ian this mad, no actually I've never even seen Ian mad ever. "How long have you been seeing him? Can you at least tell me that?"
"So you told him?" Jess punches him in the arm and he winces.
"Look, I'm sorry but he's my boy, I had to tell him and besides he overheard Jacobs bragging about how you two are dating so...." Nick shrugs.
"Unbelievable men gossip more than women." Jess says crossing her arms against her chest. "We're never having sex again, you big idiot."
"Hey." He says. "I said I'm sorry. What was I supposed to do?"
"Um....not tell him." I say.
"I had to, Kamdyn, he was sitting on the couch when I got home, he was really pissed and he told me he heard Jacobs bragging so I told him I ran into you when he was dropping you off and you said it was a date. I'm sorry, but I couldn't lie to him. That is what you said."
"Why would he even care what she does? He was making out with some chick right in front of her." Jess points out.
"Yeah!" I agreed.
"No, he wasn't. He didn't even kiss her."
"Ha, that's not what it looked like to us. We were there too remember?" Jess reminds
him.
"Yeah, but you guys didn't show up until she was kissing him, you didn't see the whole thing. We were walking and she came up to him and started talking about how she goes to every game and how she loves watching us play, then she told him she'd love to come over some time. He told her he wasn't interested but she just wouldn't listen. She kept touching him and he kept pushing her away and then before either of us knew what happened she kissed him. That's when you two walked up. He would never do that to you, Kamdyn. I should've said something sooner, but I didn't want to get involved, besides, I thought you guys would work it out."
"So he likes her?" Jess asks.
"I thought girls were supposed to be the smart ones. Yes, he likes her." Nick says. "He really likes you, Kamdyn, I've never seen him like this with anyone else."
