Valerie almost laughed at herself, yet an overwhelming unease crept into her heart. Aiden was nothing like the man he was in her old life.

He hadn’t done anything to hurt Valerie or Nelson, never confined her at home, and never took away her freedom. Instead, he let her attend school stood up for her, and even sent her flowers.

And Aiden had been nothing but gentle with Valerie. ‘I think I’m starting to fall for him, Valerie thought to herself.

Even though Valerie knew Aiden was a dangerous, unpredictable man, a demon at heart, Valerie still couldn’t help but fall deeper into his tender trap, step by step.

“What’s on your mind?” Aiden’s low voice suddenly sounded in her ear.

Valerie jerked her head up and turned. Aiden’s face was suddenly right next to hers, so close.

Aiden briefly felt Valerie’s forehead, then withdrew his hand and asked softly, “What do you want to eat?”

Valerie swallowed hard, hastily averting her gaze from his intense eyes. “I’ll order for myself.”

They finished their meal quickly.

With afternoon classes ahead, Valerie returned to her dorm and carefully arranged the flowers Aiden had given her. Only then did she gather her books and head to class.

But during class, Valerie found herself staring blankly out the window, her mind wandering. ‘While this life has taken a different path from my old one, my hidden secret remains undiscovered.

‘I’m Valerie, not Valentina. Valentina is the true heiress of the Clark family, the one actually betrothed to him since childhood.

‘And I was nothing but a pitiful pawn, thrust forward when the Clark family refused to sacrifice their daughter to that miserable fate.‘

“Valerie?” Suddenly, a loud shout snapped her out of her thoughts, and a big face loomed large right before her eyes.

Startled, Valerie instinctively recoiled.

Adrienne looked at her, puzzled. “What are you thinking about? I’ve been calling you for ages, and you didn’t hear a single word.”

Valerie snapped out of her thoughts and pressed a hand to her chest. “You nearly gave me a heart attack.”

Adrienne plopped down in the seat facing her and leaned in. “Hey, what’s got you so lost in thought?”

Valerie shook her head, a bit dazed. “What is it?”

Adrienne was practically bouncing with excitement. “You seriously don’t know? You’re super famous on the school forum now. I shared your X profile there, and now tons of people are following you. Quick, check how many followers you’ve got.”

Seeing Adrienne’s excitement, Valerie felt her heart warm. With genuine sincerity, she said, “Thank you, Adrienne.”

Adrienne was momentarily taken aback by Valerie’s sudden gratitude, then waved her hand sheepishly. “Oh, come on, no need to thank me. Honestly, I don’t have many friends in real life.

“Most of my close buddies are online pals from anime or gaming circles. But you’re different, Valerie. I’ve never clicked with someone like this before. We’re friends, right?”

Valerie smiled brightly and said, “Yeah, we’re good friends.”

Valerie pulled out her phone, only to find that her X followers had skyrocketed from just 7,000-8,000 to nearly 200,000.

Valerie stared at the screen in disbelief. “Wait, what? Did my followers really just blow up like this? This is insane.”

“Not at all. Just check how many followers Russell, the one who posted about you on X last night, has,” Adrienne laughed.

Valerie tapped into his profile and gasped. Russell had over 5 million followers on X. “Oh my, I had no idea he was this big of a deal.”

Adrienne explained, “Of course. He’s the crown jewel of Shelton Entertainment. Not only is he an amazing pianist and songwriter, but he’s also loaded and drop–dead gorgeous. Most of his fangirls fantasize about dating him.”

Sure enough, when Valerie randomly clicked on one of his X posts, the top comment read: [Darling, fuck me already.]

Valerie stared blankly, totally stunned.

Elbert sidled over, chuckling. “Hey, what are you guys talking about? Let me in on the gossip.”

Staring at Valerie’s flawless face, Elbert couldn’t help but blur out, “Wow, you really are the campus belle, much prettier than Adrienne.”

Adrienne flared up and kicked at him. “Go away.”
