Chapter 113
Chapter 113
Adrienne threw herself into Valerie’s arms, hugging her tightly.
Valerie burst out laughing, pulling Adrienne’s plump figure into a hug. “Come on, I just got fucky with this opportunity. There are plenty of talented people out there, but not everyone gets this kind of break. Adrienne, you’re amazing too.”
Adrienne got even more excited, her eyes suddenly welling up. Clutching Valerie tightly, she exclaimed, “Valerie, you must be an angel. I love you so much. Being your friend is the greatest blessing.”
Valerie grinned. “Come on, I made some money today. Dinner’s on me.”
Adrienne beamed and exclaimed, “That’s great.”
The two cheerfully stepped out, hailed a cab, and made a beeline for their celebratory feast. After dinner, they went shopping
Adrienne was never good at picking out clothes. Most of her outfits were just random picks from Amazon.
But after shopping with Valerie, it was like Adrienne had discovered a whole new world.
The two of them kept browsing store after store until the mall was closing up for the night, and only then did they reluctantly bail a cab back to campus, still wishing they didn’t have to leave.
As they returned to the dorm and passed the shower room, a girl emerged, spotted their armloads of shopping bags, and exclaimed, “Damn, did you guys rob the mall today?”
Valerie and Adrienne burst into laughter. “Hell yeah.” they chimed in together.
Adrienne fished out her key and unlocked the door, only to be hit by a pungent, overwhelming stench the moment she stepped inside.
The acrid stench hit Valerie and Adrienne like a wall the moment they stepped inside, forcing them to instinctively recoil a step back.
But then, Valerie suddenly realized something was wrong. That was the smell of burning charcoal.
Valerie stepped further inside, her voice tense as she called out, “Why would someone be burning charcoal in here? Is anyone inside?”
Valerie stepped inside to find all the doors and windows tightly sealed, the dorm room choked with nothing but thick, billowing smoke.
The room was dark, with no lights on. At its center, a brazier of glowing red–hot charcoal cast the only light.
A sudden sense of dread washed over Valerie. Her heart raced as she stepped forward cautiously only to feel the crunch of shards of broken glass
beneath her feet.
Flicking on the light, Valerie instantly saw shattered remains of skincare products littering the floor and there, lying motionless, was Jasmine, her face
ashen and foam at her mouth.
Adrienne let out a terrified scream, her whole body frozen in shock. Valerie’s face also paled in shock as she shouted, “Quick, call 911.”
Valerie abruptly dropped everything in her hands, rushed to the window, and shouted to Adrienne, “Go get help, now.”
Adrienne was trembling uncontrollably, her legs nearly giving way as she fumbled for her phone. With shaking hands, she dialed emergency services, screaming, “H–help, Please.”
Someone rushed out at the commotion and called out, “What happened?”
By this time, the call had connected. Adrienne choked back tears, her voice strained as she gasped, “This is the women’s dorm at Reano Unive someone’s attempting charcoal suicide.”
