Chapter 25

“Juliette, your friend is here to pick you up!“.

Juliette’s heart lifted with relief. She rushed out and, upon seeing Valerie, it was like finding a lifeline. “Valerie! Valerie, please, you have to explain to them. It wasn’t me who called the police last night! It was all your idea!”

Valerie turned her head toward Juliette, her cold eyes landing on her. With a tone of feigned sorrow, she said, “Juliette, don’t worry, everything’s been sorted out. This Mr. Johnson is about to apologize to you, and he’ll also compensate you for the trouble. The emotional distress from last night will be fully covered by Mr. Johnson.”

Juliette was stunned. She thought, ‘What? Why am I being apologized to? Why am I being compensated?‘

Before she could make sense of it, she found herself locked in Rowan’s resentful stare.

Wally, standing beside Rowan, slapped Rowan without warning. “Apologize!”

Rowan grimaced in pain, reluctantly walking toward Juliette. “I’m sorry.”

Juliette panicked and quickly stepped back, exclaiming, “What’s going on? Why are you apologizing to me? Rowan, why? What’s happening?”

Valerie grabbed Juliette’s hand and explained, “Juliette, if they hadn’t been causing trouble at the bar, using that kind of stuff and trapping you there against your will, you wouldn’t have ended up here. You’re an innocent, good girl who got dragged into the police station because of them. Don’t you think you deserve some compensation for the emotional distress? Look at you, your face is as white as a ghost!”

Juliette’s face was indeed pale, but it wasn’t because of Rowan–it was because of what Valerie was doing to her.

What Valerie had done was practically pushing her straight into the fire.

She’d intended to introduce Valerie to them, but instead of a simple introduction, it had led to a mess and legal trouble.

Now she thought, ‘I am being forced to accept an apology from Rowan? And on top of that, compensation for emotional distress? Is Valerie trying to ruin my life?‘

Juliette was so panicked she nearly burst into tears. “No, no, Valerie, it was just a misunderstanding…”

“A misunderstanding?” Valerie gasped, putting on an exaggerated look of disbelief.” caught up in that?”

The surrounding police officers all turned their attention to Juliette.

Juliette quickly recoiled, waving her hands. “No! I didn’t!”

“Then it’s settled,” Valerie stepped protectively in front of her, standing tall and composed. “There’s no way someone like you would be mixed people like that. You must have been forced into it, right?”

Juliette stammered, “I… I…”

Wally’s face darkened. “This was certainly a failure on our part. My brother’s poor judgment in choosing friends has caused you trouble. As for the emotional distress fee, our family will take care of it. From now on, we will have no further dealings with this young lady.”

His assistant immediately stepped forward, holding a check.

Juliette was completely stunned. She thought, ‘No further dealings? What about my dream of breaking into the entertainment industry?”

Panicked, Juliette rushed forward, trying to stop them. “Mr. Johnson, it was just a misunderstanding…”

“A misunderstanding?” Wally shot her a cold look. “We’ve apologized, and we’ve paid the compensation. And now it’s a misunderstanding?”

Juliette was on the verge of tears. “No, It’s not like that! Rowan and I are just good friends. Last night…”

Before she could finish, Wally grabbed Rowan by the ear and yanked him out.

Rowan winced in pain, clutching Wally’s hand and whining, “Ouch, ouch, ouch…”

Juliette was blocked by the Johnson family’s bodyguards. Then, one of them slapped a check against her face, sneering, “This should keep you going for a while.”

Juliette’s face drained of color as she watched Wally and Rowan walk away. All her words seemed to vanish, and she felt utterly powerless.

Valerie, ever the considerate one, stepped forward, her voice filled with righteous anger. “Juliette, don

worry. They won’t bother you anymore. You’re

safe now!”

Juliette spun around, pushing Valerie away with a forceful shove. “Shut up!”

Valerie looked at her and suddenly, she was reminded of her previous life.

She wondered, ‘Have I felt the same way every time Juliette has played me for a fool? The mix of amusement, mockery, and sadness?”

Now, the roles had reversed, but the emotions were completely different.

That thought flashed through Valerie’s mind, but she quickly masked it with a soft expression of concern. “Juliette, what’s wrong? The people who caused you trouble have paid the price. Aren’t you happy about that?”
