Chapter 11 novel Surviving My Obsessive Ex
William stood in the heavy rain, his eyes bloodshot, his hoarse voice filled with stubbornness. "Please, Father, I beg you. Grant me this."
The priest shook his head helplessly, sighing again. "Very well, come inside."
"Thank you, Father!"
William stood up in excitement, dragging his aching body to follow the priest into the church.
Inside, he knelt in the main hall, praying earnestly for Margaret’s safety.
The priest watched him, noting the weakness in his demeanor. He shook his head. "Mr. Bradford, sometimes being too persistent is not a good thing."
William froze, carefully tucking the prayer scroll into his hands. "I can’t live without her."
"But there comes a time when all fates run their course. Sometimes, no matter what you do, it’s in vain."
William’s lips pressed into a tight line, and he knelt in front of the crucifix, praying with deep sincerity. "I only wish for Margaret to give me one more chance. I’ll cherish her properly from now on, and I will make her happy."
The priest sighed as he watched William’s stubborn back, closing his eyes and shaking his head.
William, undeterred, took the nearby prayer box, holding his breath as he shook it.
The slips of paper inside rattled, and soon, with a soft "thud," one of the slips fell out.
William picked it up, his face going pale as he read the written message on the slip.
It read: "The worst of signs: A lifetime together is not meant to be; meeting again is the best of fates. The wind blows, the snow falls, old friends part ways. A stranger in the future will only recall the past."
"No, this can’t be true!"
William's eyes were bloodshot, his wet lashes trembling violently.
He and Margaret shouldn't have ended up like this!
Years ago, a fortune teller had said that he and Margaret would grow old together. It must have been an inaccurate reading!
