The bodyguard hurried over to help William up.
Margaret’s critical condition notice had been issued two hours earlier, but the doctor had been unable to contact William. Both his and the bodyguard's phones were dead from the rainstorm.
It wasn’t until the bodyguard, who had been watching over Margaret at the hospital, rushed to find William that he learned the situation.
William’s lips trembled, his eyes bloodshot, "Get me to the hospital right now!"
"Yes, Mr. Bradford!"
Before leaving, William wrote a large check for the priest, asking that the entire church pray for Margaret’s safety and recovery.
Outside the church, the storm had yet to stop.
The mountain road down was now even more treacherous.
After a bumpy ride, William arrived at the hospital at 5 a.m.
"Where is Margaret now?"
William grabbed Dr. Colin by the collar, his eyes red and fierce, "Didn’t you say there was hope for her? Why is there a critical condition notice? If she dies, I’ll hold you all accountable!"
"Mr. Bradford, please calm down..."
Several medical staff quickly intervened, "Miss Margaret’s surgery was successful. Dr. Colin found a way to treat her."
"Surgery was successful?"
It was as if William had come up for air after being submerged underwater. His pupils trembled, and in the darkness, he saw a glimmer of hope.
But before he could fully rejoice, darkness took over again.
When William woke up again, his whole body felt heavy and lethargic. He opened his eyes to see the nurse changing his IV fluids.
The nurse paused for a moment before explaining, "Mr. Bradford, your fever reached 40°C, so we are administering fluids..."
Before the nurse could finish, William ripped the needle from his arm and threw off the covers, attempting to get out of bed.
"Mr. Bradford!"
The nurse chased after him, "Your forehead and knee wounds are inflamed. You need to rest."
William gritted his teeth and walked toward Margaret’s room.
