"It doesn't matter where the dress came from, the purpose behind is what matters.", I gently told her and tried to express my thankfulness.
I was not sure, but I thought I saw Milena's cheeks flush a bit and I was happy that she had seemed to understand.
"Pretty and nice - you're really the perfect Luna.", Milena then responded and took my hand, just to pull me after her. I swallowed around the lump in my throat, because today I would learn if I was indeed to be the future Luna, or not.
"Come one, I'll show you the kitchen. You must be hungry."
On our way to the kitchen Milena talked about her pack and how everybody was excited that Levin had finally found his mate.
I grimaced, thankfully Milena was not able to see me, because that showed me again how necessary it was that I talked to Levin. Fortunatelly we did not meet anyone on our way to the kitchen. Milena would have probably introduced me to anyone as their future Luna and I would have no idea how to react. I hated being the center of attention, but I hated it more when it was unsure if I deserved it. And right now I had no idea if Levin really was my mate or not, so I felt rather undeserving of the spotlight.
"And here is the kitchen with the best cooks in the world!", Milena cheerily told me and brought me back to the present.
She stepped closer to the stove where a cook was currently making bacon and popped a piece of bacon, which were on a plate beside the stove, into her mouth. Her hazel eyes instantly got a dreamy look and a satisfied smile appeared on her lips.
Astonished I surveyed the kitchen. It looked nothing like the dark one back home and the people cooking actually seemed to enjoy what they were doing if the smiles and the laughter were any indication.
"No more, those are for the future Luna!", a male cook with a stern expression told Milena and quickly pushed the plate with the bacon away from her.
Milena pouted. "Not fair."
The cook rolled his green eyes and sighed. "Okay one more, but don't tell on me."
"YEY!", Milena exclaimed happily and snatched another piece of bacon from the plate.
"By the way, this here is the future Luna.", she then introduced me and suddenly the kitchen grew silent.
All eyes were now on me and I gulped. I immediately felt queasy and my hands started to sweat.
Oh, how I hated being the center of attention.
"Luna, it's such an honour to meet you.", the male cook from before smiled delighted at me and bowed dramatically.
I felt my eyes widen. No one had ever bowed to me. Was this a custom here?
I felt more than uncomfortable and for maybe the first time in my life, I decided to act on it.
Maybe it was because of Milena's confidence push earlier or maybe I was just sick and tired of my parents controlling my behaviour.
"Oh, you don't have to bow, a handshake is more than enough.", I told him gently and I outstretched my hand for him to shake. First he seemed to be frozen and I shot a nervous glance at Milena. Had I done something wrong?
And before I could even tell her that I was perfectly able to get my own breakfast, a plate with bacon, scrambled eggs and what seemed to be pancakes appeared in front of me.
"Are those pancakes?", I wanted to know.
Milena looked funny at me, but answered uncertainly "Yes?"
"Wow!", I mumbled and took a bite. When the rich flavour of the pancakes reached my tongue, I moaned.
"I've never eaten pancakes before, they're so good."
I was so busy with finishing my breakfast and mumbling about how good everything tasted that I did not realize how Milena stared at me.
Only after I had eaten every bite on my plate, did I take notice of my surrounding again.
The cooks were still busy cooking, probably for lunch by now and Milena was still seated beside me.
Guilitly I looked at her and said, "Oh I'm so sorry, I didn't even ask you if you wanted something."
Surprised Milena looked at me before she responded, "Don't worry, I already had breakfast, but it means a lot to me that you would've shared yours with me."
