She whimpered again and something about her just tore at my heart.

When I was sure that I had earned her trust, I picked her up and marched towards our pack doctor's office.

I had no idea if the future Alpha was following me, but I could not stand to see the she wolf in pain any longer.

Holly, our pack doctor, immediately made space on a hospital bed and when I set her down on it, she quickly went to work.

She did not question once why the she wolf was not shifting back, making me question her about it.

Holly looked surprised at me. "Don't you feel it? This one is more wolf than person."

My eyes widened, because I could indeed feel it, I just never knew something like this existed, except for....

"She doesn't act like a rouge."

Holly shook her head and responded, "She's a strong one, something is holding her back from turning rouge."

After Holly was done tending to the she wolf's wounds, the she wolf licked her hand once like she wanted to thank her and Holly chuckled. "Definitely not turning rouge."

Holly left, leaving me alone with the wolf. She must had been exhausted because as soon as Holly left, her eyes closed and her breathing evened out. I marvelled at her trust in me and something inside me urged me to stroke her.

Her fur was incredible soft and I found myself smiling when I thought about what the she wolf would look like as a human. I was certain she would be beautiful.

I had not seen a mark on her, meaning she was either still waiting for her mate or..

My eyes widened, because I had not considered this possibility.

Maybe her mate had rejected her and that was the reason for her letting her wolf take over. It was rare, but I had heard and read about these cases.

"Kellan.", someone whispered from behind me and I whirled around having been too deep in thought to realize that someone else was in the room.

My eyebrows knitted, because I had never been this careless.

When I noticed the future Alpha in the room with us, not deeming him as a threat, my gaze was instantly on the she wolf again. She was still asleep and would be for probably some time.

"I know what happened.", the future Alpha quietly told me and my eyes locked with his again.

"She's the daughter of the Mercy pack Alpha."

My hand on the she wolf's head froze and my eyes sought out her shut ones. How could someone as beautiful and as innocent looking as her have a monster as her father? There were lots of rumors about the Mercy pack and I knew that almost all of them were true. Was she like them?

"But the thing is that her mate had actually started to dream about her and was ready to search for her. The woman and child she saw him with, were his adopted sister and her son."

Somehow it did not sit well with me that her mate was apparently a good guy.

"Have you spoken with Holly?" I tried to clear my head.

He nodded and said, "I'll call Silas now."

"I'll stay with her.", I told him and could feel his questioning stare, but did not elaborate.

There was just something about her that made me want to protect her.

"What's her name?", I asked when I heard the future Alpha leave.

"Sophia."

I nodded my head, the only indication that I had heard him.

He exited the room and I enjoyed the silence he left us in.
