"Sophia.", I gently whispered and noticed her wolf's ear move.
I had no idea if she could hear me, but I wanted....no needed to let her know that her mate had not started a family. I wanted to put her out of her misery.
Something inside me did not want me to share the information with Sophia, but I did not dare to let my thoughts wander in this direction.
"Sophia, the woman you saw with your mate was his adoptive sister and the child was her son not his. He's waiting for you Sophia."
I did not know what I expected to happen, but my shoulders slumped when the wolf kept on sleeping as if he had not heard me at all.
A part inside me was glad, that meant that Sophia would stay.
Suddenly the she wolf's eyes opened and locked with my own. Something passed between us and she howled.
I had no idea what was happening, but suddenly the she wolf was no longer in front of me but a beautiful human woman with long golden hair laid on the hospital bed.
Even if I wanted to move I could not because I was too mesmerized with what had just happened.
Her tired blue eyes locked with mine and I could feel myself holding my breath.
"Thanky you!", she told me in a raspy voice.
At first I could not reply to her, but after a few moments when her eyes started to drop I reacted. "Do you need anything?"
Her eyes opened again and she smiled gratefully at me and simply said, "Time, I'm going to need some time."
And I knew exactly how to provide that.
Silas had expected me in front of my house and had immediately shared the good news, Sophia shifting back to her human self, with me. I had felt energized and full of beans. Sophia had returned to me - at least that was what I had told myself.
I had instantly demanded that we drive to the pack she was currently staying with, but the others had warned me that it was not a good idea as Sophia needed time to recover.
"I'm her mate, won't she need me?", I had shouted at them being tired of all their excuses. And her needing me was the crux. Never in my life had I ever felt needed. Of course, my parents and Naja had needed my help, but my parents could lean on each other and Naja had always been able to handle her own and now she had Jeremy. However, I never had someone to take care of, to worry about, someone who needed me. Now I had Sophia and these fuckers had not wanted me take care of her.
It had been Milena who had talked some sense into me. "I know you want to see her Nate, we all want that." She had gestured to everyone and I had noticed how worried they had all still seemed even though Silas had talked with Sophia herself.
"But Sophia needs a lot of sleep right now and if we'd just show up, she'd want to reassure us that she's okay and would wear herself out again. I know how she is."
I had clenched my teeth at her explanation, because it had not sat well with me and my wolf that Milena apparently knew Sophia so well. I wanted to be the person who knew Sophia best, but although I had never spoken to Sophia before I had just known that she would react the way to our arrival Milena had just described. So I had reluctantly nodded my head at them and had gone along with their plan to return to the Crescent Moon pack.
I had been nervous as hell when we had arrived in front of what Levin had called the pack house. A man with power radiating off of him in waves and a woman with a kind smile on her face had waited in front of the house. When I had exited the car their eyes had widened and the woman had taken a couple of steps towards me as if she could not believe that I was standing in front of her, I had whispered, "Mom?"
