Each day I had fallen asleep in the room she had occupied before they had left to find me. Her pillows still smelt like her and it had helped me sleep better at night. My dreams were still full of her and sometimes in the middle of the night I found myself reaching for her only to discover that she was not here.
And then finally today Silas had told me that he had just spoken with Sophia and that she now felt ready to come back home. Best day ever! I had a spring in each step and my lips were constantly formed in a smile - I was that happy.
Silas had told me that Sophia always asked about me, but she had never wanted to speak to me. At first I had been more hurt about that than I had cared to admit, but after some thinking I had realized that I wanted to hear her voice the first time when she stood right in front of me and not over a stupid phone.
I had troubles sleeping that night, being too nervous because of Sophia's return. And then worries crept in. Was I good enough for Sophia? Everybody thought of her as an angel and I definitely was not one. I could be moody and stubborn as hell. Would she get sick of me?
Finally at three am in the morning I crawled out of bed and quietly made my way downstairs. I still marvelled at how familiar everything seemed even after twenty years, but I knew instinctively that this here was home.
I had no idea how long I stood in the living room staring out the window looking over mom's garden before I heard Levin's voice, "That's Sophia's second favourite place to be."
I smiled at his words. "What's her favourite?"
"The orphanage."
I sucked in a deep breath, realizing again that Sophia was an angel.
Getting to know a fact about Sophia from someone else was always two sided for me. On the one side it made me incredible happy to get to know my mate better and the more I learned about her the more perfect she seemed to me. However, on the other side it made me incredible jealous that everbody knew Sophia better than I did.
"What if she's disappointed once she gets to know me?", I voiced my biggest fear aloud. Only Levin did I trust this much to confide my deepest fear in him.
"First of all the moongoddess never makes mistakes!", Levin responded, but this did not really reassure me.
"And second of all, Sophia just wants to be loved for who she really is.", my twin said more serious and I smiled at his words.
I had already caught glimpses of Sophia by hearing about her and her actions causing me to already fall for her. I really looked forward to seeing the real Sophia and to discover for my own how she really ticked. However, I already knew that I would love what I would find.
My stiff posture relaxed, because loving her would for who she was would never be a problem.
"Thanks bro!", I told Levin and he blushingly admitted, "Sophia's rubbing off on me."
"Thank you Kellan! For everything!"
Kellan had no idea how much he had helped me in the last few days. No matter what I had needed he had provided it. I had rarely come across a more selfless person than him.
And then yesterday when I had experienced a full blown panic attack caused by yet another set of worries about my mate not wanting me, Kellan had been the one who had looked after me. He had made me voice my worries out loud and we had then talked each one of my concerns over like Dr. Clairence would had done.
I had no idea if witchers had mates, but his one would be very lucky.
Kellan just shrugged his shoulders in answer to my gratitute and I had to giggle when I realized that he was embarrassed.
His dark blue eyes locked with mine and he said, "That's how you want to play it? Then I'm just going to remind you about the talk we had yesterday morning."
Instantly my cheeks flushed and Kellan chuckled satisfied at his accomplishment.
