Nathan had to have felt the same, because he tried to argue about this with his father, but Lennart did not yield, as he had already allowed us to finish the mating process before the mating ceremony.
I could understand Lennart's reasoning but was still not happy about it. However, it made me feel good when I felt how much Nathan struggled with the thought of being away from me and I marvelled at the fact that Nathan really loved me. Although he told me so again and again and I could feel and see how much he actually meant his words, I would still need more time until I could really believe it.
During our stay at the cottage I had a conversation with Dr. Clairence about this issue and she had encouraged me to just live in the moment and enjoy it. She had told me that only time would show and convince me how true Nathan's feelings were and that I should not doubt it as nothing good for either of us would come from it.
Nathan's fingers cupping my chin brought me back to the present and I could see again how much he disliked the custom concerning spending time apart.
"It's only a few hours.", he tried to convince me, but I could also see how much he struggled with his words, which relieved me.
"We'll just have to make the most of it afterwards." Nathan brought out the cheeky side of me and I loved it. I saw Nathan's eyes darken and a sexy smile appeared on his lips.
"I can't wait."
Then his lips were on mine and I forgot the world around us as his kisses consumed me. Nathan kissed me like he would never get to kiss me again and I responded with the same feeling.
"Okay, quit it, before you make me puke.", I heard Levin's voice and felt a growl rising from Nathan.
Nevertheless we pulled back and with one lingering kiss Nathan went inside and the others except Milena followed him.
"So.", Milena said and wiggled with her eyebrows. I giggled at her ridiculous looking face and told her everything she wanted to know.
We decided to talk a walk as I had been sitting almost all day long and Milena told me about everything I had missed. Lennart had apparently decided to make Levin and Oliver the future Betas, which he wanted to discuss with Nathan right now. I smiled at the thought of the three of them working together and also I could foresee a lot of bickering I also knew that they would make a great team.
When we came to the junction of the orphanage I pleaded with Milena to let me spend time with the kids, to which Milena relented making me promise to meet her at the pack house so that she could get me ready for the mating ceremony.
I hugged her goodbye and made my way to the orphanage only to realize that the kids were not there.
"Hello?", I shouted when I entered and found Faith in the kitchen, taking a cake out of the oven.
She smiled at me and said, "So I see everything went fine on your trip?"
I blushed and gently caressed my mark.
"Everything's more than fine."
Faith smiled genuinely at my words, but I knew that they must have to hurt so I quickly changed the subject.
"Where are the kids?"
What was going on? I felt my heart accelerate finally realizing I was in danger and my breaths came irregularly.
Faith's hand was on my shoulder, but I almost could not feel her, I was numb.
"Everything's going to be okay Sophia."
Confused I looked at her, but found it hard to focus my attention on her for long as my sight grew hazy.
"He told me nothing would happen to you.", she continued and I felt my eyelids starting to drop.
Fuck! Was she talking about my father?
No, no, no, no! I could not go back to my father, I could not!
I tried to mindlink Nathan, but I could not.
I tried to let my wolf take over, but she was not there.
A whimper escaped my lips, the only sign of my internal distress.
