Chapter 125 Two Bodyguards
Winona found herself reevaluating everything she thought she knew about Maren.
“Maren…” Jett’s eyes widened in disbelief. He’d pegged her as the pampered heiress type–delicate, polished, all talk. But she was tougher than he’d imagined.
The room was still frozen in shock when Lottie, blood smeared across her face, lost all sense of reason.
“Who the hell do you think you are?” she spat, voice trembling with rage. But the moment her gaze locked onto Maren’s face, she faltered. Maren was so striking it made her flinch, unable to hold eye contact.
“Another man–stealing tramp. I’ll make sure you regret ever being born. Dora, Krista, drag her to me!” Lottie shot Maren a look sharp enough to cut, her eyes burning with venom.
At her word, Dora Myers and Krista Patel turned sharply, their steps angling towards Maren.
But Maren didn’t blink. She was ready to defend herself until someone else beat her to it.
“Back off!” Jett launched forward, planting himself between Maren and the two approaching girls.
Tall, broad–shouldered, and exuding raw athleticism, Jett’s sudden appearance stopped Dora and Krista cold.
He’d wanted to step in earlier, but Maren had handled things before he had the chance.
Now, though, he couldn’t just stand by. With Maren watching, he needed to leave a mark.
“Jett, this isn’t your fight,” Dora and Krista warned.
Jett shrugged it off with a smirk. “Good thing I like picking fights.”
“You…” Neither Dora nor Krista knew how to respond.
Seeing Jett leap to Maren’s defense, Lottie exploded. “Jett, do you have any idea what happens when you cross me?”
“So what if I get expelled? You throw that threat around like confetti. Go ahead. Expel me. My family’s doing just fine,” Jett shot back, completely unbothered.
Graduation meant nothing to him; he was already lined up to take over the family business, and school had never been the endgame for him.
“You arrogant jerk!” Lottie hadn’t expected him to blow her off so casually.
“Spare me the drama. Walk out on your own, or I’ll make sure you do,” Jett warned, gesturing towards the door.

With no other option, Lottie hissed through clenched teeth.
“Fine. You win–for now. But Jett, just wait!” she snapped, then stormed off with Dora and Krista, punctuating her exit with a fierce kick to the door.
As soon as they were gone, Tracey and Agate hurried over and locked the door behind them.
The storm had passed.
“Thank you, Maren. Thank you, Jett.” Winona wasted no time showing her gratitude. If not for them, she’d be in a world of trouble.
“Don’t mention it.” Jett brushed it off with an easy wave. He had done it because he just couldn’t stand idly by.
“Maren, do you actually know how to fight?” All eyes shifted back to her, curiosity hanging thick in the air.
Everyone had always seen Jett as a decent guy–big–hearted and built like a tank. It made sense that fear didn’t easily rattle him.
Moments ago, just the glimpse of the knife had left them trembling and in tears.
But Maren, a girl just like them, stood her ground without flinching and had the nerve to fight back.
“A little,” Maren answered coolly.
After what they’d just witnessed, no one could imagine her as anything less than capable.
“That was incredible! I don’t think I could have thrown the cup with that kind of precision,” a girl gushed, handing Maren a fresh glass of juice, her eyes gleaming with admiration.
“It wasn’t just the aim. Even if you hit the mark, could you make it explode like that?” Tracey hadn’t missed the way the glass burst across Lottie’s face, shard
flying lik
shrapnel. That kind of power didn’t come easy.
“Don’t forget–Maren’s from the Royal Military Academy,”
Someone reminded the group.
If one came from a place like that, fighting was part of the curriculum.
“Oh, right! This ferry’s packed with students from the Royal Military Academy,” another chimed in, realization dawning across the group.
Even folks from remote towns had heard of it. In the cities, military schools were common–but the Royal
Military Academy stood alone at the top.
“That’s so badass! I want to be a warrior too–beautiful and fierce!” The girls sighed, nodding with stars in their
eyes.
“Alright, let’s keep the game going,” Jett said, his respect for Maren only growing. There was something about. her–a quiet strength, a
figure out who she reallystery–he hadn’t seen in any other girl. He wanted to dig deeper, ask her more,
was.
“Let’s do it,” the group echoed, ready to move on.
“I think we should wait,”
Maren said, cutting in.

Winona, who had just started to smile again, looked over, puzzled. “What’s wrong, Maren?”
The room quieted, everyone turning to her.
“Didn’t Lottie say we should wait?” Maren reminded them. “She’s most likely off gathering backup.”
Getting interrupted again would be a pain–better to wait for them to show up and finish this for good. That way, Lottie wouldn’t have another chance to mess with Winona.
“No need to worry, Maren. She’s all bark. She pulls this stunt all the time,” someone said, brushing off the
warning.
They figured Maren was just worried, and they didn’t want her stressed over something that wasn’t real.
They knew Lottie too well to take her seriously–she was all talk and no real intent.
