Simon Miller, the Onyx leader, found himself in a tricky position; he couldn’t ask certain questions with his associates nearby. Yet, her keen observation skills impressed him greatly.

For years, he had dominated the gang, yet here was a younger woman whose depth he couldn’t fathom.

His silence in response to Maren’s assertions caught his crew off guard.

Breaking the tense silence, Simon finally addressed Maren. “Leadership isn’t just about holding a title. It’s about embodying the qualities that define one. Convince me you’re fit for the role, and perhaps leadership of Onyx could indeed be yours.”

“What? Boss, you can’t be serious!”

Westley and the others couldn’t hide their dismay at Simon’s proposition.

Was their leader genuinely considering resignation? Such a thought was inconceivable to them.

Simon made a calming gesture, silencing any further objections.

Reluctantly, Westley and his others complied, though their looks towards Maren sharpened with hostility.

Maren was unbothered by their animosity, interest in Simon growing.

Right after Maren’s words hung in the air, Westley and the others prepared to lunge at her.

“Stop!” Simon unexpectedly intervened with a firm order, then faced Maren with a grave look. “Go on. Explain why I’m not

fit.”

“Must I spell it out for you? Just look at how pathetic your gang is,” Maren responded.

The fury in Westley and the others escalated, their eyes burning with anger at Maren.

“How are we pathetic?” Simon demanded an explanation.

Maren surveyed Westley and his companions, then sighed deeply, touching her forehead in apparent frustration.

They hesitated to fight the Zopilotes, a bunch of useless fools. They were distracted by a woman during the gang conflict. Most importantly, your men disrespect you openly, showing they lack proper training and obedience.”

Maren listed the faults of Westley and his group.

She added, “I could list more flaws, but I’d only end up confirming that you’re all utterly without value.”

Maren’s critique was harsh but based on her broad experience with the Sovereign Underworld and its array of genuinely capable operatives.

Concluding her harsh assessment, she said, “Seeing how things are, how can you expect to achieve anything significant? Without change, you’re doomed to remain inconsequential in this small town forever.”

Simon had long harbored doubts about Maren’s simplicity. Observing her demeanor and the assertive way she spoke now thoroughly impressed him. His instincts screamed that she was far from ordinary. His instincts were right.
