Chapter 53
Valencia’s POV
The room was heavy with tension, the atmosphere charged with unspoken emotions. Marcelere sat rigid beside me, her glare firmly locked onto Dante. I could see the faint tremor in her hand where it rested on the table, a telltale sign of her anger despite her composed exterior.
It seemed harsh–her unyielding hostility toward the Steele brothers–even though I understood why. What I had revealed to her had left scars that couldn’t easily be soothed, and the Steele pack, no matter how different Dante and Caius might be now, was deeply entwined in the memories of her brother’s loss
Dante’s narrowed eyes met hers, his expression neutral but sharp, a wolf sizing up a potential threat. The silence stretched uncomfortably until I spoke, my voice hesitant.
Marcy-
Before I could finish, Caius interjected smoothly. “I’m sorry if I came on too strong,” he said, his tone calm but edged with something I couldn’t quite place. “I know you’re angry right now. But I assure you, I have no interest in getting with you as
a form of transaction.”
His words seemed genuine, but as I glanced at him, the faint smile on his lips didn’t reach his eyes. Instead, there was a swirl of something darker there anger, frustration, and perhaps a hint of pain.
I felt a chill run down my spine, not because I feared Caius but because of the incredible restraint he displayed. As an Alpha, self–control was rarely a trait they mastered. My experiences with the Wolfe pack had taught me that. But here he was, calmly addressing Marcelene’s sharp words with an unsettling level of poise.
Dante continued as if Marcelene’s harsh tone had rolled off him entirely. “I know about the hostility Valencia has faced from the Wolfe pack,” he said, his voice steady but laced with slight smugness now. “And I know you’re smart enough to realize they can’t hurt her anymore–not with the alliance and the fact that she’s my wife. But tell me, Miss Voss, after everything that transpired at the wedding–the disdain of Miss Lethia and Celeste toward you–who do you think they’ll target next!”
Marcelene froze. Her glare faltered slightly as realization dawned. She glanced at me, and for a moment, her face softened. Then it hardened again, her eyes steeling over. “Me,” she said finally, her voice quieter. “And my family.”
Guilt slammed into me like a freight train, a wave of nausea chumming in my stomach. Once again, my presence, my choices, had brought trouble to someone I cared about. When would I stop being a burden to everyone around me?
Dante nodded, his expression firm. “Exactly. As a thank you for protecting my wife, I propose that we bring your mother here to Silver Claw and have her treated by our best doctors.”
Marcelene’s sharp intake of breath cut through the room.
“I’ve heard she has third–stage cancer,” Dante continued, his voice measured but sincere. “Our hospital offers the highest chances of success for her treatment
Marcelene didn’t respond immediately. Her glare returned. After a long moment, she smirked. “Valencia was my best friend long before she became anything of yours,” she said coldly. “My helping her has nothing to do with you, and I will not accept such an obvious bribe.”
Dante shook his head, his expression unfazed. “Not a bribe,” he said smoothly. “This is a transaction equally beneficial to both of us.”
Marcelene quirked a brow, clearly waiting for him to continue.
“I need your help,” Dante said. “I’ve read about your background Your IQ is impressive, and even though you didn’t complete formal education, you’re more than capable of excelling in any field. You’re also a highly trained soldier.”

Chapter 63
Marcelene’s eyes flicked to mine. I nodded slightly, silently urging her to consider his words. Whatever Dante’s reasons, his offer was a lifeline–not just for her, but for her mother too.
Marcelene sighed, her resolve visibly cracking. “Fine,” she said grudgingly. “But on one condition–1 don’t want to deal with your brother. At all.”
I expected Caius to look hurt or offended, but to my surprise, bismile widened, bright and unbothered.
Dante, however, remained serious. “You’ll be an employee of me he said. “I can’t promise you won’t see Caius while working with the pack. But I can assure you that if he ever disturbs you for something unrelated to work, I’ll personally take responsibility”
Marcelene’s lips pressed into a thin line, but after a moment, she nodded “Fine”
The tension in the room eased slightly as we all rose from the table. Marcelene shot one last glare at Caius before stalking off to her room, and I couldn’t help but feel relieved that the confrontation was over.
When Dante and 1 returned to our room, I collapsed onto the bed, exhausted.
“No offense,” I said, breaking the silence, “but your brother’s kind of a masochist, isn’t he?”
Dante smirked, leaning against the doorframe. “Honestly, even I’m surprised by his attitude these days. He’s never been the patient type.”
“Really?” I frowned, recalling the times Caius had helped me–during my panic attack, and even during the wedding when he’d stepped in to help me out. He’s been nothing but patient with me.”
