Chapter 35
Angel Garren’s Pov
Her shocked friend runs after her, but Conrad holds us back from doing the same.
“How do you think she will feel with all the three of us chasing her? He questions.
“I am more worried of losing her again.” Fenris answers, pushing against Conrad.
“Conrad is right, we should find another way to stop her from leaving. I say, realising that she might even get injured in the
chase.
“Order the guards to block all exits. We do not want her leaving again before she knows that we mean her no harm.” I tell Henry and he immediately rushes out.
Fenris finally relaxes, a little. “She really came back to us.”
“Don’t flatter yourself, she came to win the tournament. I sadly correct.
Of course she didn’t come back to be with us after we rudely rejected her. She only wanted the prize of the tournament, that’s why she covered her face and lied about her true identity.
“Such an arcane woman, but it’s still hard to believe she is our lost mate. Fenris mutters.
“That’s because we cannot smell her scent or feel the mate bond: Conrad points.
Yeah, that’s a mystery that needs figuring out
She never accepted our rejection in our face, the mate bond should still be there. But it isn’t.
“How do you think she did it? The mate bond cannot have just disappeared.” I say.
My brothers appear contemplative for a long moment.
“What if she used a spell? Conrad questions.
There is a spell that can be used to break a mate bond?” Fenris worriedly asks.
Without the mate bond it will take years to convince her to get married to us. I wouldn’t mind courting her for years, but the promise we made to our awful queen cannot wait that long to be broken. Neither can the wish we need her to make for us
“I once read of a spell that puts on hold feelings caused by mate bonds. It does not however end the bond completely.” Conrad answers and a sigh of relief escapes my lips. It’s times like this that we get to appreciate his passion for reading.
“For how long will this spell last?” I ask.
“Days or weeks. I am not sure. He answers. “Good thing is that she cannot reject us while the mate bond is on hold. So we have time to apologize for our mistakes. He adds.
“That’s easier said than done. We all know that she cannot be enticed by our wealth or power.” I argue.
“Then we should figure out what interests her. Conrad responds.
“We owe her an apology first, otherwise she will misunderstand our intentions: Fenris corrects.
“You expect her to forgive you?” I snort.
No of course, I was most rude to her. He genuinely answers. “That won’t s if I have to. He adds with a determined face before turning to leave.
My attempt at escaping the palace failed. Guards were at every spot by the time I got near the gates and I didn’t have the heart to kill any to earn my escape.
I turned and returned to my guest room, finally accepting my fate. I wonder why they have not yet come for me. How long does it take to prepare the gallows? I may die of my own fear even before they hang me.
I laugh because I never thought that such a petty trick is all it would take to get my masks off.
“They should pay you the money since you fulfilled your part of the deal.” I say.
If I am going to die my friend should at least get rich, have something to take back to the alpha of our pack.
“I will not take their dirty money. Not unless they allow me to pay for whatever it is they claim you stole.” He replies. They will kill you too if you try to defend me.” I warn.
“I would rather due your partner than your traitor.” He declares in a nervous voice but I do not doubt his loyalty.
“I would be angry if I thought you would betray me. You’re my best friend. I will die in peace when I know you’re safe. So get your prize and leave this kingdom.” I urge.
He shakes his head, a tear falling from his right eye.
‘I may be a coward but I am not running away. I unknowingly betrayed you, so I deserve the punishment. He states and I huff
in frustration.
You want to be hanged in front of a cheering crowd like a witcha against their enemies. How do you think your father will feel?” I retort, trying to kick sense into his head.
The angel kings will gladly use our deaths as a warning The door swings open before he responds. Our eyes widen in shock as angel Fenris steps into the room.
I thought they were going to send soldiers to get me. But here is the meanest of the angel kings.
