Melody's POV
I sighed as I got out of Gabriel's car, "You can't just insult Scarlett just because you don't understand."
Gabriel rolled his eyes, "She wasn't the greatest wife either, Mels. I always had my doubts, she was always flirting with other men."
"Or was she being nice and you were too jealous to see that?" I shot back.
After realizing Scarlett really isn't a bad person, I felt protective over her. I love Gabriel, but the things he says about her is wrong. I understand he's frustrated about her reason for cheating on him, but it doesn't give him the right to talk so low of her. She's a classy girl, she's oblivious to the amount of men who are always looking at her. I know she still has feelings for Gabriel, but she's not acting on them. Instead, she's trying to move on, knowing I was dating him and loved him. And for that, I already consider her a good friend.
Gabriel ran a hand through his hair, "She hurt me though, she could have done it a different way. She could have just told me she wanted a divorce instead of acting like some whore. And now she's dressing nice to tease your brother? She's-
"One hell of a woman, a rare woman to be exact. If you want to be considered a man, then I suggest not talking so lowly of a woman. Scarlett doesn't deserve this, I don't want to hear one more insult thrown her way. Got it, Mr. Stone?"
I snapped my attention to my brother as he stepped out of the shadows, his eyes shining with anger. Gabriel glared at him, his grip tightening on the steering wheel.
"I'm starting to believe you're jealous of all the attention she's getting. You see it all the time, don't you?" My brother continued, smirking.
Gabriel swallowed, "No."
"Then quiet acting like you are. Let her live her life. She's no longer your wife, meaning, she can move on if she wants."
"You just want to get into her pants," Gabriel sneered.
Xavien narrowed his eyes, "I'm not some player, Mr. Stone. Playing with a woman's heart is the least manly thing you could do. That's something immature high school boys do, not adults."
"Gabe, just go home, alright? I'll see you tomorrow," I whispered.
He nodded, "I love you."
No, you don't.
"I love you too," I said quietly.
He frowned, "What's wrong?"
"Nothing."
Xavien protectively wrapped his arm around my shoulders, "I think it's time you leave, Gabriel."
He flashed my brother another glare before putting his window up and driving away. As I watched his car disappear, I released a breath.
"He still loves her," I murmured.
Xavien shook his head, "He's attracted to her. If he loved her, he wouldn't be dating you right now. He would have fought to have her by his side since day one of their divorce. Hell, they wouldn't have divorced."
I frowned, "I am tired....of Gabriel."
He raised an eyebrow, "Hmmm?"
"He completely changed ever since Scarlett became his secretary. He's an asshole anymore, always talking crap about her and insulting her. Then, he'll be nice to her, only to act cruel towards her later on. Anthony caught her crying today, he said you wouldn't be too happy to find that out."
He didn't look at me as he sorted through his money, "You know...it's becoming awfully hard not to kill Gabriel."
I silently watched him for a moment, "It'll destroy me and her if you do kill him."
He quietly lit a cigarette before counting his money, "He needs to learn, Mel."
I shook my head, "You'll scare her."
He stiffened, "I know. Which is why...I'm not going to do anything to him."
I smiled softly before telling him goodnight and going upstairs. I sighed as I stood in the dark hallway, looking at our parents' bedroom door. I felt my chest tighten, remembering all the times Xavien and I ran in there during thunderstorms, on Christmas morning, and so on. But now, they're in the hospital, ill. I miss them more than anything, but I think it's really taking a toll on Xavien.
I jumped when I heard him fall and let out a string of curse words. Quickly, I ran downstairs to see him sitting on the kitchen floor, pressing his hand against his thigh. Blood covered his hands, staining them red. I quickly grabbed a towel before running over.
"Hospital, now."
