I sighed in relief when Gabriel dismissed me for the day. After he had returned from his lunch break with his future wife, he had checked in on me. It didn't take a genus to know I had cried, but it did take someone desperate, to still lie. I had easily denied the sobbing that had gone down in my office, I know it wasn't believable, but he eventually gave up.
I gathered all of my things, eager to escape his unwavering stare. Seriously, it was beginning to creep me out. I turned to leave, but froze when I saw him leaning against the door frame. His eyes were cold and empty, sending chills down my spine. His mouth was formed into a thin line, silently telling me he was upset.
"You're not going to tell me, are you?" He questioned.
I shook my head, "Just give it up, Mr. Stone."
That had set something off in him, I watched as his eyes turned darker with anger. "Fine. I want you here by five am tomorrow, I need you to do a grammar check on these files Haze had written. I then want you to re-type them onto the computer, save them, and send them to me. I need them for my meeting tomorrow. And you are to attend the meeting, I need you to take notes. After that, I'll give you more to do. I have much to accomplish."
I nodded, "Yes, sir."
"Now, if you don't mind, I have a date to get ready for."
I watched him leave with no hint of remorse, he wanted to hurt me now. Hell, he has wanted to hurt me since the day after our divorce. I being his secretary allows him to make me work my ass for revenge. I didn't complain though, I know he doesn't get here until seven, I'll have two hours to work in peace.
I unlocked my apartment door with a sigh, exhaustion already clawing at my body. I haven't slept well for weeks, ever since my father had sent me that email. He wasn't a scary guy and he never hit me, but he was basically selling me to one of his friends. According to my cousin, he has many debts to this 'friend'-he thought making me the guy's wife would be a good idea. And that is where the hiding started and my divorce.
I couldn't forget what he had told me, till this day, I refuse to allow Gabriel to know. Knowing will only get him hurt, since he loves to be impulsive at times.
"If you don't find a way to get rid of him, then your new husband will."
The threat wasn't hard to understand, his friend would have made sure Gabriel was gone. He wouldn't leave my life alive either. I can only imagine what he would do if he found out I was Gabriel's new secretary.
I threw my bag onto the couch on my way to the kitchen. My stomach roared with the need for food and who am I to deny its request? I smiled to myself once I saw the chocolaty goodness in my fridge. Some may say a chocolate cake is a terrible dinner choice, but I say it's a marvelous choice.
"Sorry mom," I mumbled, knowing she would ring me by my neck if she had caught me. She had always been austere with my diet.
I was allowed to eat junk food, but only one junk snack per day. If I was attending a party, then she would allow me to go crazy. But during normal days, I could only have one junky snack. I smiled to myself, I should thank her for her strict ways. If it wasn't for her, I would most likely be extremely unhealthy right now.
I sighed when my phone sounded, forcing me to ignore the cake. I took a bite as I answered my phone, mumbling a greeting.
"You're eating cake, aren't you?"
I chuckled, "Well, hi to you too."
"So, how was your first day with Mr. Stone?" My cousin asked.
"Well, considering he's my ex-husband and basically shoved his girlfriend in my face, pretty well."
"That bad?"
"I may just quit and work at the café again."
He chuckled, "And how will you afford your apartment? You know that guy hates you."
"I know, I know. You know he gave me one month until he forces me to marry his friend?"
"What?"
"He's desperate to get rid of the money he owes him. His friend really wants me too."
"Scar, this isn't good. Why don't you just get rid of the bastard? He's an alcoholic now, a verbally abusive one."
I bit my lip, "How? I have no idea where he is or what he's doing. I'm not getting myself into his mess, I'll figure out a way to keep myself hidden."
"Okay, fine, but I don't like it."
"I know, don't tell Ga-
"Mr. Stone? What are you doing here?"
I froze at the sound of his name, praying Silas won't be an idiot and tell him everything. He had been tempted before, claiming it'll be better for him to know. But I know Gabriel will be an idiot and hunt my father down. I don't need my ex-husband getting killed.
"Are you sure there isn't a guy there?" He asked.
"Why would you care?" I retorted.
He was silent for a moment, "What's the guy's name, Silas?"
I felt my mouth go dry, if he brings my boo into this, my cousin is going to be in the hospital by tomorrow.
"So, Scarlett, how is Ivan?"
"Gabriel, could you please put Silas back on the phone?" I asked sweetly.
"Okay."
I grinned, good, he doesn't forget what me being overly calm means.
"Yes?"
"You.Are.Dead- Holy shit! It's flying again!" I screamed, jumping over my couch and tumbling onto the ground.
"I'm starting to think that stink bug is going to kill you first," Silas laughed.
I sighed, "Must you be an ass?"
"Yup."
"You better tell Gabriel that Ivan is gay."
"Will do. Hey, Gabe, you know Ivan was gay but is now bi? Who knew my little cousin could make a guy like girls!"
"SILAS!"
