Estelle's POV

"It's like a curse, and I don't want you to be one of those Luna's." The father's tone was serious.

"I don't think I'm going to be Luna, do you remember when I didn't have a wolf?"

"Don't take this lightly, I want you to stay away from the Alpha."

"I know, I know." I casually agreed with my father, but my heart didn't care much about his words.

Not to mention the curse, I didn't think Lance thinks of me as his mate or future Luna or anything at all. I had no real feelings about being his mate, partly because I had no way of perceiving the mate link. There's also the fact that my Alpha was very cold to me. It's true that he's supposed to be that way, but the fact that he's also so cold to his mate proved that in his mind, his mate wasn't that important.

Of course, I hid the loss in my heart. I was supposed to be an ordinary person, a girl who didn't even have a wolf at the age of 17. Maybe Lance was disappointed that he inherited such a good bloodline and I was a crippled wolf. Lance instructed us not to tell anyone about my relationship with him. He wanted to find out the wolf pack's spies as soon as possible, hence we were just ordinary wolves who had moved into their pack.

To be honest, it wasn't common at all. The Legion had barely received anyone else from the wolf pack, and I could guess what I was going to face the next day when I went to school. I lay down on my bed and pulled the covers over my face, hoping that would help me fall asleep.

I didn't know if Lance arranged it on purpose, but we lived only two blocks from the school. The school didn't look much different from our old high school. It was nice that the Legionnaires were just regular teenagers. Nathan and I walked up to the door of my class and he waved and walked on.

I pulled him back, "Don't fight on your first day."

"So do you." Nathan shook off my hand and continued on his way.

I certainly wasn't looking for anything, but the people in my class obviously didn't think so. At first everything was normal, not many people looked up when I introduced myself, which I expected. After class, no one talked to me, and there were a bunch of girls who whispered something while sneaking glances at me. This was no different from my previous high school career.

It wasn't until gym class that my physical abilities were different from those of the already awakened wolves. And as if my teacher already knew this, he didn't let me go to the volleyball competition, and I practiced sprinting with some girls in another squad. Just as I was running to the edge of the volleyball court, a volleyball in my blind spot hit me in the head with amazing speed.

All I could hear was a loud "Bang!" and my eyes went black for two seconds. Then there was intense pain, and I could hear the exaggerated laughter of several girls in the ringing in my ears. So this was where I was waiting.

"Are you okay?" I heard the eager voice of a girl as she placed an ice pack on my head.

"It's okay." I actually still had a brief moment of dizziness, but I didn't want to give the bitches the benefit of the doubt.

I think my P.E. teacher waved her hand to indicate that it was okay with me. In my daze, I saw the PE teacher walking towards the girls playing volleyball. His tone was stern, "Did you do that on purpose?"

One of the girls, who looked like a cheerleader, had an innocent expression, "Of course not! We didn't even see her."

"Yeah, yeah." The girl next to her echoed.

"Bitch." I overlapped with the girl's voice, and I blinked to get a better look at the girl. She had a well-proportioned body and her dark brown hair was tied high in a ponytail. Her somewhat baby-fat face and round eyes made her look agile and cute.

The girl spoke up, "My name is Mia. are you really okay? I heard the volleyball hitting your head, they were too much."

I touched the back of my head, where a bulge had swollen up "It's just swollen." It really wasn't much to me, it didn't bleed or break any bones.

"Skyler is always like that, you have to watch out for them in the future." Mia pointed to the cheerleader and her little group.

"Skyler? I didn't think it would take only one day for her to hate me so much, just because I'm new?"

"There's that reason, but I think she's still jealous."

"Jealous of me?"

"Yes, the newcomers are "outsiders" and we have always had a bad attitude towards "outsiders". But this time the Alpha let you join us. Especially since you're such a pretty girl."

That's because she didn't know that I was forced to join. "I think they just hate me." I never thought I was pretty, hardly anyone ever said I was good looking, they all called me a loser with no wolf. Except for my ex-boyfriend, but ever since we broke up I'd always thought that was just his rhetoric to get me into bed.

"Don't be modest, anyone can see that you and Skyler are the prettiest girls in the whole gym. And you're not nearly as flashy as she is."

Mia helped me into the gym lounge and I took the ice pack from her.

"I'll do it myself, thank you."

"What do you mean by "outsiders"? Has no one ever joined your wolf pack?"

"Of course you do, but you are very special. Outsiders would not have been allowed to live in the city, many of them were captives or rogues, and the Alpha would have let them join the army to become our fighting force." Indeed, it would have been all the rarer to move from one pack to another.

"So everyone is curious about you." Mia looked at me with an excited look.

"Let's hope their 'curiosity' ends here, I really can't handle it."

"I'm going to take roll call, are you okay to be alone?" Mia looked at me worriedly.

"It's okay, you go ahead."

Mia waved at me and ran away. I realized I hadn't said thank you to her yet, so I'll wait until the next time I see her.

Skyler appeared right behind me when I opened my own storage at the end of the school day. It was hard to tell she wasn't here specifically to squat on me. I turned my head to look at her, her dark blonde hair cascading over her shoulders, her green eyes dead on me. She closed in on me, and all I could do was back up until my back was against the locker.

"Alien, come with me. I have something to ask you." Skyler gestured for me to follow her.

"No. Ask whatever you want to ask right here."

Skyler gritted her teeth, it seemed few people dared to refuse her. It's a good thing she hadn't found out I don't have a wolf yet, or who knew what unseen corner she'd have to drag me to and beat me up in.
