Estelle's POV

Anthony walked up to us. He was half a head taller than Ethan, and his body looked strong. the smile on Ethan's face disappeared for a moment, and he stepped in front of me.

Ethan said to Anthony, "I'm talking to her. What does it matter to you?"

"This girl doesn't look like she wants to talk to you." I looked at Anthony from behind Ethan and nodded vigorously at him.

"Didn't your mother ever teach you not to interfere with other people's business?" Ethan provoked Anthony.

"Bastard!" Alpha would not allow anyone to challenge his authority, and Anthony let out his aura. Normal wolves would normally submit under Alpha's aura, but Ethan stood his ground and glared at Anthony with an expressionless look.

Although I didn't have a wolf, I could feel them putting pressure on each other. I was about to suffocate under the pressure of their auras. I tugged at my collar and Anthony saw my discomfort and he immediately withdrew his aura. Anthony took my arm and helped me up as he stared at Ethan.

Ethan gave up on confronting Anthony and said to me before he left, "I'll see you around." When he said that, it was as if he was announcing my fate.

Anthony's presence gave me the strength to stare at Ethan's back and say, "No, I won't!"

Ethan's didn't turn around, just waved at us and walked away.

Anthony asked me with concern in his voice, "Are you okay? He didn't do anything to you, did he?"

"I'm okay, thank you for saving me."

Both two men smiled, while Anthony's made me feel very comfortable, "I saw that guy didn't come with us and I thought he didn't have a good intention."

"Do you know him before?"

"Not really an acquaintance, only having come into contact with their wolf pack before."

"So those rumors about the Legion are true?"

"More or less, but there are no many normal people in their pack. You can see it just now, even their beta is like this."

My mind went back to the man with the dark blue eyes, who had an ethos that was hard to ignore. I asked Anthony, "Have you met the Alpha of their pack?"

"No, he rarely shows up and most of the people who have seen him are dead." I touched the bruise on my neck. Indeed, I almost became one of these dead people.

"Do you know his name? Like, Clifford?"

"It seems to be the last name." Anthony rubbed his chin, "How do you know that?"

"I heard it from someone else." I answered Anthony perfunctorily, now more certain that the man I had met that night was the Alpha of the Legion, who had revealed an ethos that was hard to forget.

A phone rang, Anthony picked up the phone, looked at the screen and hung up. He said to me, "I have to go. You have to protect yourself." His hand was on top of my head and rubbed my hair, and I didn't dare look up at him; my face must have been very red.

"OK." I could only answer him in a very small voice.

As I walked home, my mind was filled with the events of the day. And Anthony's tender face and his gentle smile warmed up my heart. He's so young, I wondered if he has a mate... Wait! I was taken aback by my own thoughts. He's the Alpha of the Autumn wolf pack, what was I thinking?! I patted myself on the face, and I didn't even have a wolf. Thinking about it made me lose my mind again. I'd be an adult soon, and if I couldn't have my own wolf by then, I'd most likely be banished from the pack.

When I got home, my father, Marvin, was lying on the couch and asked me, "What have you been doing?"

"Volunteering." My answer was breathless.

"What are we having for dinner tonight?"

"I'm not eating tonight." I walked to my room, after the day I just wanted to go back to bed and lie down.

"I'm hungry, cook something for me. Anything at all." Marvin said to me, picking up the bottle of wine on the table.

"Can't you do it yourself?!" I could feel the veins in my temples jumping up.

"Don't even think about it!" I walked in my own room and slammed the door behind me, and Marvin was silent for a split second yelling up in a whisper outside the door.

I threw myself into bed and wrapped my head in the covers. It was annoying; why did all this shit have to happen in my life? A mother who disappeared just after giving birth to twins, an alcoholic father, a rebellious younger brother and a life without wolf, which consisted of my poor life. Tears slid down the corners of my eyes and onto the sheets, so maybe leaving the wolf pack would be a relief for me instead. I passed out in tears, and when I woke up again it was noon the next day.

To my surprise, I had a dozen missed calls on my phone. It was an unfamiliar number, and I dialed it back. Then Brandon's voice came on the other side of the receiver.

"I thought you were dead, no-wolf girl."

The moment I heard his voice I wanted to hang up the phone, but out of reason, I told myself not to do so. I asked him in as calm a voice as I could muster, "What do you want?"

"You're invited to my birthday party tomorrow night." I didn't feel honored at all, I didn't want to see him, and his girlfriend who had beaten me half to death previously.

"I have to go to the hospital tomorrow for a follow-up appointment, so I can't make it to your party."

"I knew you were going to say that, how about if you come to my party I let my father keep you with the wolf pack?"
