I dropped the book I was reading back on the table. What Thane had said yesterday refused to leave my mind. I couldn't possibly believe that they weren't my parents.

For as long as I remembered, I had always been with them. After Thane's bombshell, I wanted to go see them and ask them about it but he refused. Rather, they would be coming here today so I could find out the truth.

Right now, I wondered if I really wanted to find out the truth, if my heart could take it. What if they really weren't my parents? Who are my real parents. Did they want me?

I sighed in frustration and laid my head on the table. Damia appeared from behind one of the shelves, her head bowed as usual.

"Your parents are here" I hurried out of the library quickly, down the stairs and to the entrance. My parents were stepping out of the car just as I got there. I ran into their arms, hugging them tightly.

"Let's take this upstairs" I held my mother's hands tightly as we ascended the stairs and into the study. Thane pulled me with him and I settled on his legs.

"My king, you sent for us abruptly. Is there a problem?" my papa asked.

"It's about Esmeralda" I caught their eyes and smiled weakly.

"You both are werewolves but she's a half-breed. You're not her real parents"

"We might not have given birth to her, but she's our daughter" my mum spoke in anger. My father held her hands and pulled her back.

"It's true she's not our real daughter. But we've loved and cared for her like we would do our own"

"That's not the issue. Do you know who her real parents are?"

My mama shook her head. "A woman brought her and asked me to hold her daughter for a minute while she went to get supplies. I had never seen her before but I wanted to help her. She never came back" tears ran down her face. I stood up from Thane's legs and went over to her, hugging her tightly.

"Continue"

"I think that's enough" I said. The story shows that I was abandoned. My mother didn't want me. She dropped me off in the hands of a stranger and took off. I didn't want to know anymore.

My mama shook her head. "Please let me finish. I want you to know the whole truth" I didn't say anything and she continued.

"My mate and I had been mated for a long while with no pups. When Esme was dropped with me, I felt joy. I finally felt what it was like to hold a child. I didn't want to let go. After waiting for a couple of days and the woman never showed up, I pleaded with my mate to let us change sections. I didn't want the woman to come back looking for her baby, so we left" I didn't want to hear anymore.

I stood up immediately and rushed out of the door. I ran to my room and shut my doors. I felt conflicted. What if my real mother came back searching. I wanted to be angry that mama ran away with me. That she denied me the possible chance of being with my real mother.
