Samantha’s POV

It was very difficult to calm Henry down when I called to tell him what happened at the dinner. He wanted me to quit immediately, and it took a long time to convince him that I was safe inside the company.

I knew he would rush out of his office to come to my workplace again, which was happening far too frequently lately. Fortunately, it was already the end of the day, so his work wouldn’t be left aside once more because of me.

Henry arrived in less than half an hour, leaned on my desk, and looked into my eyes – his irritation was palpable.

“Samantha, I wasn’t happy about you working and being exposed to danger before, and now that you’re pregnant, I like it even less. We should rethink this,” Henry placed both hands on my desk and immediately voiced his concerns.

“And what do you expect me to do? Stay locked up at home?” I asked calmly. “Because that’s not going to happen.”

“Sam!” Henry threw himself into the chair in front of my desk, completely frustrated. “I don’t want anything bad to happen to you and our baby.”

“Neither do I, Henry. But understand, I’m safe here. I’ve already decided I won’t leave the building during the day, I’ll stay put and have my meals delivered, but I’m not quitting,” I made it clear that he had no say in this matter.

“Promise me you’ll do that?” Henry now had a pleading tone.

“I promise,” I said, trying to calm him down, but my cell phone rang, drawing my attention away from him.

I picked up the device and looked at the number on the screen. I knew who it was, as it wasn’t the first time they’d called – Nicole had been quick to spread the news. I placed the phone on my desk and answered on speaker.

“Little Samantha, you never learn, do you?” Romulus spoke from the other end, his voice threatening.

“What do you want to leave me alone, Romulus?” I said tiredly.

“I want you, little Samantha. Haven’t you understood that yet?” Romulus responded as if I were stupid. “But I heard you’ve been behaving very badly. Pregnant, little Samantha? Seriously, you’re expecting that rich boy’s bastard?”

“Don’t call my child a bastard,” I said angrily.

“But that’s what he is, little Samantha, a little bastard, because you’ll never marry that idiot!” Romulus spoke authoritatively, and I saw the flash of anger in Henry’s eyes.

“That’s what you think. Forget me, Romulus,” I complained, and he laughed.

“Little Samantha, get this through your pretty little head, you’re mine, only mine, and you’ll be with me,” Romulus spoke with calm and coldness. “If you’re not with me, little Samantha, you won’t be with anyone, because I’ll kill you!”

“You’re crazy!” I retorted, feeling my throat tighten. “Forget me, Romulus. I’m not yours, you have no right over me, leave me

alone.”

“You want to test me? Wait, I’ll give you a little surprise,” Romulus threatened. “But to show you how generous I am, I we do anything to the little bastard, I’ll raise him along with the children you’ll have with me.”

“You’re insane! Don’t you dare come near me, Romulus,” I hung up the phone before I got even more nervous or before Henry decided to speak and make Romulus even angrier.

“Samantha, this is getting dangerous. Let’s leave the country for a while, please. I want you to have a peaceful pregnancy and our baby to come into this world without any risks,” Henry begged but he was asking too much of me.

“Henry, I could do that, but who’s to say he wouldn’t attack someone I love? My mom and Manu are already his targets. I can’t leave them at the mercy of that idiot,” I argued, and I could see Henry considering my point.

“Damn it! You’re right. But things are getting complicated. I’m scared of what he might do, Sam.”

“I guess the usual. Why do you ask?” Henry was looking for Flavian’s number on his phone and didn’t pay much attention to my question.
