Henry’s POV

The week was coming to an end. The days had been challenging, but in a week, I would say yes to the woman of my life, and we would be united in marriage. However, what truly united us was our love. And each day, I loved her more.
If someone had told me a while back that I would be eager to get married and have a family, I would have called them crazy. But at those days, that was all I felt eagerness for the wedding, for the arrival of my child, eagerness to get home every day and see the woman of my life smiling at me. I was a lucky man; I had everything that made me happy and even more.
“Good morning, Henry!” Melissa greeted me with a very cheerful and festive hello.
“Good morning, crazy girl! What’s got you so happy?” I asked, finding her too effusive.
“Oh, I don’t know, maybe a girls–only party tomorrow, or the wedding of history’s biggest ladies‘ man next week…” Melissa pondered, looking up with a pen in her mouth, making me laugh.
“Mel, what’s going to happen at this girls–only party?” I asked, wanting to know about Samantha’s bachelorette party. She had been very excited about it.
“Oh, Henry, who knows. You know how it is – Erica and Emilia are organizing it, so anything could happen,” Melissa said carelessly.
“You’re kidding me, right?” I hadn’t known those two crazy women were involved in this, and I expected anything from them. “Oh, if only!” Melissa started laughing. “You didn’t know?”
“No!” I responded, somewhat indignantly.
“Henry, they’re promising the bachelorette party of the century!” Melissa gave that mischievous smile she had when she wanted to watch chaos unfold.
“I need to talk to Hebe.” I left grumbling and went into my office. But of course, I couldn’t get through to Hebe.
Soon after, my phone rang. Julia told me that Reuben Calixto was here to see me. I found it an unexpected visit since we had no connection or business. But then I remembered he was Reynold’s friend, so I prepared myself for some complaint from that
creep.
“Good morning, Henry. How are you?” Reuben was a very formal and clever lawyer. He usually beat around the bush when he wanted something and could drag things out forever; I needed to stay alert with him.
–
“Good morning, Reuben. So early at my company – I imagine it must be something important and urgent.” I directed the conversation to see if he would skip the long introduction.
“Yes, Henry, unfortunately. I’m not pleased to be here for this reason, but, as you well know, your father is in jail, and I see no other way out.” Reuben would have given an hours–long exposition of the case if I hadn’t been quick
“Reuben, you have five minutes because I have an important appointment and I can’t be late. Be direct.” I didn’t care if I sounded arrogant; I had no intention of being even minimally polite with this man who, to me, was just an acquaintance and would remain so.
“Alright. Henry, you know your father and I…” He was about to tell a story, and I was already losing patience. I decided to interrupt him.
“What do you want from me, Reuben? Get to the point.” I was blunt.
“I lent your father some money and I’m representing his defense in the charges against him. He told me to come to you to settle the debt and pay my fees.” The situation was so absurd it was comical, so I started laughing.
“Reuben, Reuben, who do you think you’re dealing with?” I asked seeing the confusion on his face.
S2–Chapter 158
“Look, Henry, he’s your father. It’s your surname…”

“I don’t give a damn about that surname! Want to spread around that Reynold is a deadbeat? Be my guest. But listen carefully, you won’t get a penny from me. And I’m warning you not to contact my mother or my sister, because if you do, I’ll report you for extortion and harassment. Reynold owes you, so deal with him.” said everything at once so he wouldn’t keep rambling
“Henry, be reasonable. If news gets out that a Martin has debts, you’ll be in an embarrassing situation.” But the creep was still threatening me.
“Reuben, if you dare to throw Reynold’s mess onto me or my family, I’ll crush you like an insect. You know I have enough power, money, and connections to dig up your dirt and end your insignificant little life.” I threatened, and he knew it wasn’t an empty threat. “And for your information, feel free to spread it around, Reynold was banned from the family long ago, or as you lawyers like to say in your best Latin, he’s persona non grata, so his problems are his own, not ours. Was I clear, Reuben?” “Clear as a summer day!” He responded with a legal maxim, visibly uncomfortable. “Well, I apologize for bothering you. It’s best if I withdraw from Reynold’s defense then.”
“Do whatever you think is best for you, just don’t bother me again, and don’t bother my family.”
