For a week, Henry and I enjoyed each other’s company sailing along the coast. We discovered many small coastal towns, picturesque fishing villages, found tiny paradise–like islands and secluded coves. We talked, made love, laughed, and relaxed. When we docked back in our city, I didn’t even want to return anymore, didn’t want to leave those sweet moments full of love behind, but there was no way around it, real life came knocking sooner or later. The good part was that we would have a lifetime to enjoy beautiful moments together.

On Monday, I actually thought everything was very quiet at work, hadn’t seen any sign of the girls yet, which surprised me, but at lunchtime, they all came to my floor, including Melissa and Hebe, bouncing and curious.

“Darlings, I’m back!” I joked when I saw that group of women walking toward me.

“I’m wondering if you’re not ashamed of coming back from your honeymoon without video calling us,” Melissa was the first to complain.

“Actually, Ithink my honeymoon lasted until this morning before had to come to work,” I teased them.

“By the look of happiness on Henry’s face when he arrived at the office, I think your honeymoon isn’t over yet,” Melissa laughed. “Come on, let’s go to lunch because we want to know all the juicy details.”

Melissa was always bold and full of wit, making me laugh, but I knew she would ask about everything. I grabbed my purse and we walked to the restaurant. Neither Romulus nor Reynold were tormenting me anymore, I felt confident enough to return to my normal life.

After I shared every detail of my honeymoon and showed them lots of photos, it was the girls‘ turn to update me.

“And how do you know all this?” I asked, not understanding.

“This crazy Melissa dragged me to the hospital with her. And she even got permission from Detective Bonfim to go in and visit Isabella. When we went in, they were changing her bandages. It was horrible,” Hebe explained.

“I can’t believe, Melissa, that you went to the hospital,” I said, impressed by Melissa’s lack of common sense.

“I did. She almost killed you, Sam! I went and felt sorry for what she did to herself. I told her this had gone too far and she messed herself up trying to hurt you. And you know what she told me?” Melissa asked, and I shook my head no. “She said she didn’t regret it. I actually felt sorry for her mother, who’s there suffering through this situation. Now, it seems she’ll be discharged next week and go straight to jail.”
